Mary Ann We have some real Surnames in Common, Sterling May, Captain Langford (also know as Lankford) of 1812 Humphreys County and his tax list of My John Johnson, son of Hudson Johnston and wife Agnes. Hudson Johnston died in 1828 Dickson County Tn. wife Agness died in 1848 Dickson County Tn. The Reverend Thomas Murrell and Hudson Johnston traveled together from Henry County Va 1776-1780, Rev. Thomas Murrell left in 1780 and came back in 1782 re married the Widow of James Johnson ( who Hudson lived with in 1778) Hudson Johnston left with Numerous other Families to what as then Washington County NC, Hudson Johnston lands are in what is now Hawkins County Tn. They both left there and went to Williamson County Tn where we know Reverend Thomas Murrell's two brother's were at. Hudson Johnston left Williamson County in 1803 to Move to Barton's Creek in what was then Stewart County, by the time he gets to Barton's Creek it is now Dickson County Tn. Hudson Johnston died there in 1828. His wife Agniss Johnston died in 1843, her will was administered by Thomas Murrell the son of Rev. Thomas Murrell who also moved in 1806 to Dickson County and died there. Mary Polly Johnson daughter of Hudson and Agniss Johnston married first Joel Shropshire and he passed away in Dickson County, Mary Polly Johnson Shropshire married on Sterling May and moved to Arkansas Joel Shropshire's father died on Rockfish River in in lands that were in Amherst County that went into Nelson County. His father was Seymore Samier Shropshire. With the Name Cornelius Murrell there is no doubt in my mind you Come of this Thomas Murrell of Byrd Creek or one of his Kinsman, first Murrell in the Colonies is his Father William Murrell whose lands were first recorded in Surry County ( which changed numerous time with Parish Lin Changes and County Line Changes) The Amherst Lines them selves are a Challenge to figure out what County one needs to Look for Deeds and Wills at. I will send you later more information in our Files on Your Murrell or Murrill, Murril lines I am off to work. reverend Thomas Murrell's lines come off Byrd Creek as doed my Conecting DNA Johnson's, my Matlock lines, my Mayo lines and several other inter connecting lines of Hatcher, Burton, Farmer, Trent, Osborn. I am researching Lankford's from the Virginia area. Facts: Marriage of B. Murrell 27 Feb 1809 to Edward Lunkford(should be Lankford), Nelson County. They were in the Amherst then Nelson county census than showed up in Indiana census in 1840. I know little about her except on her tombstone she is listed as Elizabeth. She died in 1847 and judging from the dates on her stone ? she would have been born 20 Aug 1776. I know they left Virginia in Nov. of 1837 going to Indiana with family, friends and classmates of one of her sons. He bought land in Vigo County Indiana. It is right across the line from Edgar county and I find a Cornelius Murrell there in 1850. He was in his latter years 78 and living with him was Polly Ingles 45. Elizabeth and Edward named their oldest son Cornelius M and the second son William M. for three generations the M was carried as a second name. Murrell? Maybe brother to Elizabeth? His estimated birth date would be abt 1772. I have never found a reference to the M. as Murrell or anything else in any legal documents. They list Buckingham Va as birthplace. That is about all I can find about her or him. MaryAnn in Florida Researching Lankford, Sterling, Newby and related families. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. hi Group, While I'm thinking of this - I realize I haven't looked at the Leathers family for awhile. Greenberry Leathers, 1850 Dickson county census, married to Nancy _____________. Is anyone else researching this line that might know her last name? Thank you Bonnie
Glenda, I'm also an England descendant. I think we have written in the past. Permelia England, daughter of Anderson England and Elizabeth Baker. Permelia married Lemuel Bruce. Bonnie

Stacy, I hope you received my last e-mail. For some reason, it cut me off and would not let me write anything else. As to Betty Jo and the internet. I don't think so. Lary is sick with Muscular Dystrophy or some disease like that and is in a nursing home and David is retired and I assume is living in Old Hickory or maybe Hermitage, Tn. As to asking questions, Ask away. I will be glad to share. I have found out a lot but there is always more to learn!!!! Glenda > >

Glenda, Is your last name Proudfoot? I saw that on the site where the tidbits are. I wanted to put your source information in my notes. My mother said that she remembered Aunt Mary was a very neat woman, as well. She said once they went to visit and as they were leaving she could here the vacuum cleaner running behind them. I can only imagine the crickets were a necessary source of income or a hobby. Maybe Mary didn't mind them because they reminded her of the country. Who did Olive Baker England marry? Do you know if your England line connects to Joe S. England that married Mary's sister Lorene Hooper? Is the City Cafe still open? Did the Sheeley family always live in Bruceton? How did your grandparents meet, isn't that several counties away? Do you know if Betty Jo, David or Larry are on the internet? I am afraid I have more questions than anything. It seems that is always the case, one question usually leads to another. Thanks for all your help. Stacey Givens

Glenda and Stacy, I am Laura Craft. I do not think I am any relation to the Hoopers and Englands although there are some individuals with that last name in my research (Dunnagan/Donegan). The reason for my writing is for a friend. She is the granddaughter of William Henry Hooper and Thomas Elizabeth Fields. When I told her about someone seeking information on this line, she asked me to find out their direct line. I told her I would put the request online. She does not work on the computer. Thanks for your help. Stacy, I am related to Uncle Elb thru his sister, Fannie England Sheeley Englert, his sister. She married my grandfather, Robert Lester Sheeley their children: Loyal Webster (Buddy) Sheeley and Wilma Sheeley. The Sheeley line ends with me. I was an only child. I didn't know about the crickets. I knew he fished a lot but I am surprised Aunt Mary allowed crickets in her basement!!!! We used to go visit and I was scared to touch anything in the living room. Her house was immaculate. We did eat dinner once in her dining room. It was really crowded and I bet it took her a lot of work to clean up. I don't remember who all was there that day. Too long ago. Sometimes when we visited Larry and I would go to the theater there in Old Hickory. We were close in age but David was some older. Didn't see much of him. Betty Joe had already left home by the time I remember the visits. Mary and my mother were real "talkers". They would get on the phone and talk a long time. I think Uncle Elb and Mary stayed in Dickson when they were first married. I found where they had an infant son who died (2 hrs old) in Dickson. Betty JO, the next child was born in Old Hickory. I don't know whether they lived with someone or had their own place then. I don't know whether he tried to farm or had other work. Not much talk about that period of time. My parents were married in 1937 and once they left Bruceton, Tn, they didn't visit as much during the war but when it was over, we went quite often of see someone... Fanny England Sheeley, my grandmother worked for and then bought the City Cafe in Bruceton, Tn in the 20's. MY DAD was raised by Olive Baker England, his grandmother in Dickson until he was about 17 and he left and went to Bruceton and his mother. He was a really good cook. Not too much time passed until he went to work for the L & N and came to Nashville. Well, that's enough for now. I don't know what you want or have so anything I CAN help with< just ask and i WILL TRY TO answer.
