Forgot to add something.. ashburns arent kin to burtons. My grandma';s maiden name is Burton .. her dad's nmame was campbell burton.. both are buried there. Burtons are connected to Maynards I'm told. It's interesting that my great-granny Oma Smith Steele, before she married, was living in the 8th District of Putnam with an old man Maynard and her illegitimate son Ezra (later took the name "Steele" when she married James Lawson Steele in 1901). She's buried in Maynard Cemetery...Makes me wonder if there's some other familial connection between the Smith and Maynard families further back. My great-great grandparents Charles Smith Jr. and his first wife Alice C. Fisher are buried there in graves marked only by fieldstones, at the foot of Abraham Lincoln Smith's grave. I was told that they're buried there. Also buried there are Ezra Steele and Molly (Herrin) Steele, my granduncle and aunt. Ezra was my granny's brother.
