    2. http://www.spartaexpositor.com/obituariesdetail.asp?ArticleID=1849 Thomas Kelly Potter Jr. Thomas Kelly Potter Jr., 74, of Nashville, formerly of Sparta, TN a former United Methodist Publishing executive and avid amateur historian, died April 14, 2005, at his home from complications from leukemia. Potter was born May 16, 1930, in Sparta, to Thomas Kelly Potter and Bonnie Passons Potter. Potter was an avid historian, whose lifelong interest in genealogy and Civil War history led to membership in, and several articles published by, the Middle Tennessee Genealogical Society and the Middle Tennessee Historical Quarterly. Recently, he was active on the curriculum committee of the Vanderbilt University Retirement Learning program and found special meaning working as a volunteer reading tutor for Friends Learning in Paris at Charlotte Park Elementary School. Before his retirement in 1995, Potter served for 33 years on the executive staff of the United Methodist Publishing House. He continued to serve as a lay leader in the United Methodist Church. He earned a bachelor’s degree from George Washington University, in 1954, and served to LTJG in the US Navy. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Anna Lass-Potter and his first wife Barbara W. Potter of Nashville; three sons, Thomas Kelly Potter III, of New Orleans, Lee Carson Potter, of Columbus, Ohio, and Joseph Worley Potter of Winston-Salem; one sister, Joan Guthrie, of Chattanooga; and seven grandchildren. Arrangements: A graveside service will be at 1 p.m., April 23, 2005, at Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Hunter Funeral Home. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m., April 24, 2005, at West End United Methodist Church, Nashville. Visitation will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alive Hospice, 1718 Patterson St., Nashville, TN 37203, or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Donor Services, P.O. Box 4261, Pittsfield, MA 01202. Hunter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
