Can it detemine genetic ancestral origins in proportion, such as Celtic, English and German? Could the many people who think they are "part Indian" prove/disprove same by this testing? It really can not determine if Celtic, English and German, but can give you where like matches are found. They can determine Indian Blood. In Sept 2003 at a Conference in Orlando I spoke with one individual from Family Tree DNA on testing for Indian Blood. He said they had did a number of tests for it, but found only few. But did find several with African blood. A 12 marker match only means kinship if with same surname, or maybe an event outside of marriage if not same surname. A Smith cousin took DNA test and matched up on 12 markers with 94 individuals but only two were Smiths. D. Mitchell Jones http://www.dmitchelljones.org
