Tom The Curtis family that lived out on Dale Ridge in the early 1800s was the David Curtis Family. He got State Land Grants there in 1815 and 1827. The 1827 grant was on the Head of Bigh Hollow of Indian Creek. He made the 1820 Smith Co. census but did not show in the 1830 census. In 1820 census David had sons the age of John & Benjamin. I see reference to him in some 1833 Smith Co. records. This is all I have on him. Move up to 1837 after that area was moved to Dekalb I find John and Benjamin Curtis were made Road Hands. In the 1840 DeKalb Co. census Benjamin had two boys, Thomas & William C., living with him and his family. John had a 70 year female living with family. The four men, John, Benjamin Thomas & William C. all raised large families in North West Dekalb Co. I feel that these four men are brothers and could be the sons of the David Curtis that lived on Dale Ridge. Also think that all the Curtis population in Dekalb in 1900 descends from the four. One exception could be the Willie Curtis in Alexander in 1900 due to the fact that he was born after 1880 census and I haven't heard of any claiming him. I can send you a gedcom of the Curtis' that I have but should admit that it will be heavy on the descendants of William C. That is my wife's line. I do have all the children of the four. I know that I didn't answer your question but I feel that we have enough interest on the Curtis families on the DeKalb List that if we will work together we could make a large file of all the descendants of those four men and maybe their father. I'm sending to the List in hopes of help. Bob [email protected] <I am also interested in knowing more about the Curtis Family. Although not my direct line, they inter-marry with many of my families. I grew up in DeKalb Co. and knew the Curtis families that lived in Dowelltown and Alexandria. I remember the John Wesley Curtis that you mentioned in one of your earlier emails. His step father, John Davis' first wife was Martha Fite (Fite is my line). This John Davis' mother was a Laurance ( also my line). Do you know if the Will Curtis that lived in Alexandria and had sons Jack, Ova Jay, and Orval ties in to the DeKalb Curtis family that was on Dale Ridge in the early 1800's? Tom
