    1. [TNDEKALB] Turney/Barger; Turner
    2. My ancestor was Francis Turner b. 1839, son of Francis Turner/Elizabeth Turney. He married Mary Ashworth in 1860. Elizabeth Turney was the daughter of George Turney/Catherine Barger. George's parents were Henry Turney/Elizabeth who lived in Clear Forks area. Henry d. 1843. To make things interesting (as if Turner/Turney marriage wasn't enough!) Francis had a brother named John Turner who married Elizabeth's sister, Catherine Turney and also lived in DeKalb Co. Needless to say, they all pretty much named their children with same given names.... After Civil War, Francis Sr. is on 1870 Cannon Co. census as is the household of his son Francis with wife Mary Ashworth and children. Will be happy to share my confusing Turner/Turney mess.... Can anyone help me sort these folks out? Or figure out who Catherine Barger Turney's parents were? She married George 31 Aug 1803 in Hawkins Co. TN. LaVerne

    3. Hawkins County in 1803 covered a larger area than it does today. A suggestion is to find the old county boundary and check with the current counties found within that boundary. I am a Turner researcher. My Turner family line is from Wilson Turner who lived near the Brush Creek and Sykes area in Smith County, TN. His daughter Martha Carolyn Turner married Richard McGinnis Trapp on January 27, 1884 Dekalb County, TN is my direct line. I checked my Turner data and did not find Frances Turner or any Turney's. My information may not go back far enough to pick up you line. For any year or place I search the following - Trapp, Doss, Terry, McGinnis, Flowers, Hayes, and several other related families researcher from Dekalb and Smith County area. I also research Turnley (Jefferson County, TN, etc), Walker (Overton County, TN) Wilson (Blount and Roane County, TN), Ladd (Roane County, TN), Hembree (Roane County, TN and the Carolinas), Graham (Jefferson County, TN), Huffaker/Halfacer (TN and VA) and Pickle (Roane and Knox County, TN).
