I am looking for more information on the John "Jack" Reynolds who came to Smith Fork area about 1808 either with the Driver families or to join them. I believe John Reynolds had two wives - one married about or before 1791 and had daughter Elizabeth Reynolds who was born April 1792 and married James Tubb Jr. John married Mollie Driver in NC Feb 1793 and they apparently were parents of John (Jr.) - possibly married Mary Robinson?; Peter b. 1805 who married Matilda Strother. There was also a young female in John Sr.'s household 1820 census (his wife Mollie had died 1819) who may be another unknown daughter. According to IGI and some published Reynolds info, John was the son of John David Reynolds/Mary Martha Gay... I'm quite sure he was the son of Martha Reynolds (whose father John Gay died in Northhampton Co. NC naming both Martha and grandson John) - but the "John" David Reynolds with whom he is sometimes associated and who died Guilford Co. NC does not appear to be his father. I have a bad feeling that the "published" John David Reynolds/Mary Martha Gay lineage is totally mixed up with another Martha Gay and her Reynolds husband. According to Hale's book on DeKalb Co. history, John Reynolds was one of 4 brothers who settled in Smith Fork area - JOHN; GAY; JAMES; JOSIAH. Can someone help me straighten out this Reynolds mess?
