My father's sister was Opal Alice (Crook) and she married Johnnie Clyde Cripps also from DeKalb County, TN area. I can't remember his parents names right now, but they were from the "double p" spelling of the surname. Found out from a lady who still lives in Dowelltown/Smithville area that the difference between the Cripps and Crips spelling came as a result of the War Between The States. I believe she said the double p spelling were nothern sympathizers and the single p spelling were for the South. Again, thanks for responding to my request. I really appreciate it.
