I believe that my Pittman line would have been in Jackson around 1830-1842 or so. They had children born in AL but I've never been able to narrow down a county. While exploring a lead about 2 Pittman girls who married Dunham Brothers I came across the Dunham Family in Jackson Co. AL and remembered that there had been a David Pittman listed as head of household there in the 1840 Census....I believe that this Pittman was actually Daniel Pittman. The Uncle of one of the Dunhams of Jackson Co. AL is living next to Daniel & Comfort in the 1850 Census. I'm trying to figure out whether the two Pittman girls that married the Dunham Bros. may have been children of Daniel & Comfort. > So, a great many families apparently moved down >there from the Upper Cumberland, and not just from >DeKalb County. 3. Some of the Dunhams did. They were there from about 1838 to 1863. The Gunters went from Warren Co. to that area before 1820. Parts of DeKalb came from Warren. Many of families from the 6th district of DeKalb went to Madison Co. AL to work in the Cotton Mills. Bob In tracing the Pittmans and their neighbors from Dekalb Co. TN I've found that several of their neighbors had ties to Jackson Co. AL. I wondered if anyone else on the list had ran across a Jackson Co. 3. Isn't Putnam Mountain, near Scottsville, in Jackson County? Apparently around the turn of the previous century, some land was being opened up for homesteading, as my great-granduncle Christopher Columbus Judd and his family homesteaded Putnam Mountain, named after Putnam County, TN. My great-grandfather William A. Rice wrote a letter in 1908 saying he "was going to look at that land that was opening up in Alabama...." to his brother-in-law, John Denton Brown of McMinnville, Warren County, TN, and would stop by their house to stay on the way down there and on the way back. So, a great many families apparently moved down there from the Upper Cumberland, and not just from DeKalb County. I'm wondering if the Thomas Pittman family moved to Alabama between 1850 and 1860 or if they moved to Texas? They lived in Cannon County, where their son Thomas Pitman Jr. married Martha G. LaFevers in 1852. They're gone by 1850. 2. Wolfman
    3. I am looking for information on a Moses LaFever or a Robert Moses LaFever who married Elizabeth James, daughter of William James and Clarissa Smith. Moses, like most of the LaFevers in White County, was a potter. Thus I strongly suspect a connection to Andrew LaFever Sr.'s family. Could this Moses/Robert Moses LaFever have been another heretofore unknown or forgotten son of Andrew LaFever Sr. and Nancy Ard???? He apparently was born about 1813 or a few years earlier, and is of the right age to have been a brother to Andrew Jr. and his siblings. He died before 1850, as apparently did his wife. His children, Martha G. LaFever, Robert Samuel LaFever and William J. LaFever were living in the household of Clarissa Smith James in 1850, Cannon County, TN. Martha married 1852 in Cannon County to Thomas Pitman Jr. They apparently went to Texas. Thanks Will Smith ===== Greetings from the People's BANANA REPUBLIC of TENNESSEE. 3. I don't know anything about that Thomas Pitman though I've heard others mention him before. My lines(Daniel & Comfort Pitman) who were in Dekalb Co. TN in 1850 & 1860 were in AL for some time between abt 1835-1842...but not sure where. Two of their children are listed as being born in AL in some census records. You bring up an interesting point about the occupations. My Daniel is listed as a shoemaker in the 1860 census. While searching thru Data on Pitmans I had ran across a John Pitman listed in the 1850 Bledsoe Co. TN Census. His occupation was given as Shoemaking also. This John Pitman was born prob. around 1775 if you go by his age given in the 1850 Census. My Daniel was born around 1800-1803 so I'd thought that perhaps there was some connection given the fact that the had the same Surname and occupation/profession. Have not been able to find anyone researching the Bledsoe Co. TN Pitman who is listed as living with Nancy Pitman age 26 prob. a granddaughter. I think the John Pitman could be the father of Daniel but will have to dig futher. --Marie Beckman http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~rmbeckman/index.html > About Pittmans.
