    3. My brick wall is Samp B. Harriman, b. 1/10/1856, d. 7/15/1912, found in the 1880 DeKalb County Census book. A Sterling B. Harimon married Margret J. Haile in DeKalb County September 11, 1873 and they are my husband's great grandparents. They are buried in the Mount Moriah Baptist church Cemetery (page 209 in the cemetery book). I believe they changed the spelling of the last name since I can find several Harrimon's, Harmon's, Herrimon's etc. His children appear to be the first ones using Herman as their last name. One of their sons, Sprial Wade Herman ran a store on Pea Ridge at one time. I would appreciate any information on this family especially, Samp B. Harriman's parents and where they came from. Also, any information on the Cook, Ashford and Bogle families in DeKalb County would be welcome. Thanks, Bryna Ashford

    3. My ancestor was Francis Turner b. 1839, son of Francis Turner/Elizabeth Turney. He married Mary Ashworth in 1860. Elizabeth Turney was the daughter of George Turney/Catherine Barger. George's parents were Henry Turney/Elizabeth who lived in Clear Forks area. Henry d. 1843. To make things interesting (as if Turner/Turney marriage wasn't enough!) Francis had a brother named John Turner who married Elizabeth's sister, Catherine Turney and also lived in DeKalb Co. Needless to say, they all pretty much named their children with same given names.... After Civil War, Francis Sr. is on 1870 Cannon Co. census as is the household of his son Francis with wife Mary Ashworth and children. Will be happy to share my confusing Turner/Turney mess.... Can anyone help me sort these folks out? Or figure out who Catherine Barger Turney's parents were? She married George 31 Aug 1803 in Hawkins Co. TN. LaVerne

    3. Rev. Moses Vincent Ashworth was one of first circuit riding Methodist ministers in TN area. He was born 1783, son of John (Morefield) Ashworth/Nancy Vincent. His "circuit" included KY and in 1810, he married Jincey/Janey Muse 1810 in Pulaski Co. KY (daughter of Richard/Margaret Muse) Rev. Moses was found on 1812 Bedford Co. tax list (as does one of his Muse brothers in law), but appears in 1820 Smith Co. TN census. He also sold land (to Samuel Vinson/Vincent in Smith/DeKalb and he appears in 1818 court record after marriage to the widow Eliza Jenkins (maiden name supposed to be Davis). Census record is a bit confusing, but would appear that he probably had at least 2 children by his first marriage: my ancestor, Thomas Vincent Ashworth, born Dec 1812 in Pulaski Co. KY, and possibly a daughter. There is also an "extra" adult female in household as well as second wife Eliza and her son John Jenkins. Moses & family relocated to Posey Co. IN about 1825/1828 (where his siblings & father had moved before 1820 census from Sullivan Co. TN) Thomas Vincent apparently remained in DeKalb Co. or returned there as he Julia Tubb (daughter James Tubb Jr./Elizabeth Reynolds) about 1836. Thomas/Julia lived near the Tubb and Reynolds families and remained there until after the Civil War when they moved to Kaufman Co. TX (after 1870 census - before 1875 when Thomas died in TX) If Thomas had a sister (as I suspect) have no clue what her given name was or who she married... Thomas is not listed as head of household in 1830 census, so may have been living with married sister, or his Aunt Jane (Ashworth) Spurgin who also remained in TN (Sullivan Co. or Washington Co., I think?) Anyone know anything about these folks? Have an extra "Moses Vincents" in family tree who could belong to unknown married sister? LaVerne

    3. Rollcall: WALKER, ADCOCK, LACK, HOLCOMB. Trying to locate a death record of Alexander L. Walker, died March 1901 in Dekalb Co., TN. Widow was Zelpha Holcomb Walker. Need info. on Alyce (Alsa) Adcock Lack, seen in 1850 census in David Turner household. She married Corder Lack on Aug. 7, 1856 in White Co., TN., lived in Dekalb rest of her life, & lastly in household of Johnson as mom-in-law in 1900 Dekalb Co. census. Who were her parents? Why didn't she live with the Adcocks? What or who was David Turner to Ms. A. Adcock. Was she an orphan? Not listed as a servant either. What's the mystery? I need a death record. Is there a will or death record for Corder Lack? He died about 1883. Was he divorced from Alyce Adcock Lack? His dau. Eliza is my ggrandmother. Does anyone know what ever became of the Edw. & Eliz. Lack of Va. & White co., parents of Corder & Benjamin? Any will? They were seen in a Dekalb Co. census. Now that I know that Tellitha Martin Walker, wife of Alexander L. was the dau. of John Martin, Sr. & wife Sally (Catherine Cantrell?), I would like to find out more about these families. She was mentioned in his will in Dekalb Co . Where did the Sr. Martins live? They appear to be quite wealthy at that time. Thank you. [email protected]

    3. George Wilkinson/erson born in Spartanburg, SC ca 1815. Died ca 1847 in TN. It is believed that he married in DeKalb Co. in 1835 to Mary Cantrell also born in Spartanburg, SC ca 1817. She was widowed and married Jonathan Powell in 1849 in TN. She died in MO after 1887.
