Hi, Does anyone know if there are any records of any of the Cumberland Presbyterian Churches in DeKalb Co. The Hale's belonged to the Liberty Cumberland Baptist Church, Sterling, and wife Rosanna . Also, I have Jones ancestors buried at the Banks Cumberland Baptist Church. Any help will be appreciated. Mary Ross

No, I haven't any proof to tie her to John at all. One of the old folks long ago told me they thought she might possibly have been John's daughter, but she could be a daughter of Alexander. Have you ever found anything that would help us document who her father actually was? Was Alexander living near Andrew LaFever Sr.? Researching the Oliver Parkerson family. He was married to Sarah Sewell and they had 6 children . Alonzo born about 1864 Married to Nan Pitmon 1880, married to Nancy Jackson in 1895, and he married to Ellen Batey in 1900. Nan Pitmon had two children by Alonzo and Ellen Batey had two. Cant seem to fine anything about Nancy Jackson that was married to him in 1895. He was listed as Oliver the same as his father in the marriage book of Dekalb co. We asume his name was Oliver Alonzo.

Yep, there were a lot of them apparently in White and DeKalb counties. Some of Thomas Tallent's kids married into that family and they went into Van Buren County, Arkansas. His son James Tallent married Mary Rice, sister to my ancestor John A. Rice who married Sarah Howell about 1832 in White county. Could very well be part of your folks up in Illinois. Hope this proves to be good info for you. Could be, as I'm told several White County familes went up into Illinois ( Example being: Joseph Bartlett and his wife Millicent Rice were up there briefly with William Rice who came back to TN and settled in Wilson County, while Joseph and Millicent Barlett settled in Overton County. It appears that Jane Durham Mullican in 1830 Hamilton Co., IL census and surrounded by Asahel, Ira, Sion and Thomas Durham. Are these Durhams related to Jane? D. Archibald Buchanan Steele, son of Andrew Steele and Martha Buchanan, moved to Amite County, Mississippi. Samuel Steele lived out his life in Davidson County, TN. Eli and Mary Steele LaFever had Martha Steele living with them. She was mentally retarded, and died fairly young. Eli LaFever and Andrew LaFever Jr. were brothers, and sons of Andrew LaFever Sr. (1774-1847) and Nancy Ard, who settled about 1830 or so in White County. They were potters. John Steele's probable other daughter was Celia Steele who married Andrew LaFever Jr. and they also were my gg grandparents. Their daughter Louisa Ann LaFever was born 1847 and married William Henry Harrison Judd, son of Nathaniel Jackson Judd and Rebecca Nancy Grimes, 1862 at Bunker Hill, Putnam County, TN. Louisa died 1925 and is buried at the William Judd cemetery in the twin oaks community of Putnam County. Their daughter Leitha Catherine Judd (1877-1941) was my maternal grandfather William Logan Rice's mother. She married William A. Rice, son of Marion Rice and Mary Jane Myers, in 1893. He died after accidentally shooting himself in 1909, and Leitha then married William Travis Hickey in 1915. Trab Hickey married Cappie (Hedgecough) Sherrill after Leitha's death, and he died in 1962. No, that is not correct. Mary "Polly" Steele's parents were John Steele and Jane Compton, who were married 1810 in Wilson County, TN, per John Steele's War of 1812 pension application. He died August 1871 before it was approved and his second wife, Mahala Goodman (whom John married in 1844 DeKalb County, TN) applied for a widows pension on John's service and it was approved in 1873. It was Alexander Steele JOHN'S BROTHER who married Lucy Compton in 1807 Wilson County, TN. Lucy and Jane Compton were daughters of William Compton. John was the son of Andrew Steele and Martha Buchanan. They were married probably about 1779 in Augusta county, Virginia, as their son Samuel Steele was born 1780. John and a twin brother James Steele were both born in 1782. Martha Buchanan was the daughter of Archibald Buchanan and Agnes (Bowen) McFerrin, widow of James McFerrin. Agnes' brother was William Bowen, who built that exquisite old brick house in Goodlettsville, Sumner county, TN in 1787, which is still standing and part of Moss-Wright Park, next to Mansker's Fort. William Bowen was the maternal grandfather of Tennessee Governor William Bowen Campbell, who was born in the aforementioned Bowen house! Archibald Buchanan's house stood at the corner of Stuarts Ferry Pike and Blue Brick Drive, named in honor of the two-story house that Archibald built there of blue clay brick. I work through Primerica which is on Elm Hill Pike, and the Buchanan cemetery is also on Elm Hill Pike, but you have to take a right turn off Donelson and it's within just a couple of hundred feet on the right after making the turn. The old log house built 1809 by James Buchanan is directly across the street from the cemetery. If I understand correctly, this cemetery is part of what was Knapp's Farm, and is where Archibald and Agnes were re-interred after being removed from their graves at the blue brick house.
