    1. Re: [TNDEKALB] The Liberty Herald
    2. ldpage
    3. Thanks for the "Liberty Herald". I've read them all and really enjoy it. I have a question about a story in April 19 issue. Bill Ferrel killed Bill Caldwell near Smithville. In rsearching my great grandfather Alexander Page, s.o. Andrew Page, I have been puzzled by the reason why he sold the farm at Capling and moved to Warren Co. I've asked several people and haven't gotten any answers. My 84 year old aunt, granddaughter of grandpa Alex said that there was a land dispute with the Ferreel Family and something happened to cause the Page's to pull up stakes and move. (my aunt married a Ferrel related family member and there was opposition from the Pages to the marriage) anyway . . . I am searching for more info about this story and looking for a connection. Can you help me? a great, great grandson of Alexander, Charles Page ----- Original Message ----- From: "Athol K. John J. Fuson November 19, 1891 - October 20, 1965 Pairlee R. Fuson October 30, 1894 - March 29, 1978 buried in DeKalb Memorial Gardens Paralee C. Fuson February 19, 1851 - February 26, 1890 James H. Located on the Walter Vandergriff Farm, off Old Dry Creek Road near Dowelltown, Tn. Copied by Robert Wall. Then in the Fuston Cemetery there are many graves and I shall list the Fus(t)on graves only. Nannie w/o J.M. Fuston October 18, 1883 - June 23, 1901 There is only one.....interesting since it was named Fuston Cemetery. Last but not least Fuson or George Cemetery >From Hwy. 70 one mile east of Dowelltown, turn south onto Dry Creek Rd., go about 2 miles. Turn left (east) and go up Possum Hollow Rd. about 2 miles to a hollow on the left (north) where Lon Baliff and Paul Baliff lived. The road up the hollow may not now be passable. Go about 1/2 mile to the end of the hollow. Behind the last house about halfway up the hill on a small level spot is the cemetery. It contains 4 or 5 graves marked with fieldstones and has rosebushes growing around it. Those buried there are known to be of black families and were probably buried between 1880 and 1910. They are thought to be either the families of Stephen or Milas George, born 1864, who lived on this farm; or they could be the Wood Fuson family, born about 1850, who lived on the ridge just above the cemetery. (See 1900 DeKalb County census, District 9, Nos. 33 & 40). Information from Fannie Tramel Mullican and Jesse Baliff Fuson, May 1990. 3. When the county was organized in 1837 district 6 was the Belk area. Still is. At one time there were many little Post Offices. Belk was one of them. Probably for the last 100 years the Belk area has been on a rural route out of Smithville. In 1920 it was Route 9. That is about as long as I can remember. Belk was named for Mary Louise Belk who the wife of Nathan Wall. They ran a country store at a crossroads and when they put a Post Office in the store Nathan named it for his wife. Nathan was from that area and as Soldier in the Civil War he had married Mary Louise in Atlanta, She was from Marion Co. GA. 1. [TNDEKALB] Tubb & Reynolds
    2. Hi Cousin! I have read where your James and my John Reynolds were brothers (or at least there were brothers John, James, Gay & Josiah) who were among the earliest settlers. The Reynolds research gets complicated since somewhere along the line, LDS records have parents as John David Reynolds/Mary Martha Gay and also lists a sister Elizabeth, I think it was and gives her husband's name. However, when I checked Guilford Co. NC (which is where LDS records list them), the David Reynolds I found who listed this Elizabeth as his daughter, doesn't seem to possibly be the papa of the Reynolds brothers who settled in TN very early 1800's. I don't remember offhand why I came to that conclusion - I think because in David's will which lists daughter Elizabeth, no mention was made of any sons with the right names - or if there were sons with those same names, they are accounted for in Guilford Co. records. All this research was eons ago and I haven't worked on the Reynolds line much since then -- it is a source of MAJOR frustration... As for the Tubb line, there is tons of information on these DeKalb Co. lines which is posted on at least one website that I know of. I had a computer glitch that lost my bookmarked sites - but I know it was one of the Yahoo Club surname websites... you can find it by going to yahoo.com and then figuring out how to get there... Good luck! LaVerne

    2. Ed Marsh
    3. Hi all, the family I am researching must have lived right on the boundary of Smith/Wilson because they had land in both and appeared on census in both (from one time to another - not both at once). Example: Zedekiah Candler was in Smith for the 1820 census. His son John Candler was on the Wilson tax rolls in the 1820's, but he had land in Smith (Smiths Fork, Dry Creek). Zedekiah's son Winston Candler appeared on Wilson tax rolls in the 1820's but was in Smith for the 1820 census. Winston's neighbors were many of the names that I have seen mentioned in this string. I especially remember how many DRIVERs were in his neighborhood. Winston married a girl named MARY (last name unknown). I wish I could figure out who Mary's parents were. Surely she was a neighborhood gal.
