    1. [TNDEKALB] Hello Cousins
    2. LB
    3. Hi, I am the granddaughter of Thomas F. Joines/Joynes. He and his family were from Dekalb County, TN. His ancestor was Poindexter Joines. From genealogy research and from other sources, I have found many different branches of relatives in Dekalb County. One Joines Dekalb cousin told me we were related to many many families. Some of them: Spencer, Bain, Mathis (double cousins), O'dell, Hale..etc.. Our branch moved to Florida in the 1940's when my grandmother became ill. Thomas's brothers were Henry (who died in WWII), Delbert, Malcolm, Charles and his sisters including twin Lois and Willie Mai. Thomas's father was Charles Monroe Joines who married Mattie Mathis, daughter of Bluford. Maggie

    3. Is there anyone besides Bob, Etta, Cheryl, Tom and myself following this Curtis information? The reason that I'm asking is because I just receive a rather large letter from Etta full of some great information on Mathew Curtis which I'm forwarding to the above along with some more information which I have as an attachment. Just don't want to miss anyone. For the list, I would like to say that Matthew Curtis was married 3 times - 1) M. Elizabeth Johnson Dec 19, 1867 (6 children) 2) Louvisa Jane Vanderpool Aug 19, 1880 (6 children) 3) Lillie Scurlock between 1912/20 (none) *There are also several connections to the William Johnnie Vanderpool - Nancy Farmer family Ann (Jobe) Brown [email protected] Ann's Genealogy http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ajobebrown/ Surname & Locality Sites, Gedcoms, Photo Albums, Much More from: "RWAL" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, May 27, 2002 11:47 PM Subject: Re: [TNDEKALB] CURTIS > I know that I didn't answer your question but I feel that we have enough interest on the Curtis families on the DeKalb List that if we will work together we could make a large file of all the descendants of those four men and maybe their father. 3. Tom The Curtis family that lived out on Dale Ridge in the early 1800s was the David Curtis Family. He got State Land Grants there in 1815 and 1827. The 1827 grant was on the Head of Bigh Hollow of Indian Creek. He made the 1820 Smith Co. census but did not show in the 1830 census. In 1820 census David had sons the age of John & Benjamin. I see reference to him in some 1833 Smith Co. records. This is all I have on him. Move up to 1837 after that area was moved to Dekalb I find John and Benjamin Curtis were made Road Hands. In the 1840 DeKalb Co. census Benjamin had two boys, Thomas & William C., living with him and his family. John had a 70 year female living with family. The four men, John, Benjamin Thomas & William C. all raised large families in North West Dekalb Co. I feel that these four men are brothers and could be the sons of the David Curtis that lived on Dale Ridge. Also think that all the Curtis population in Dekalb in 1900 descends from the four. One exception could be the Willie Curtis in Alexander in 1900 due to the fact that he was born after 1880 census and I haven't heard of any claiming him. I can send you a gedcom of the Curtis' that I have but should admit that it will be heavy on the descendants of William C. That is my wife's line. I do have all the children of the four. I know that I didn't answer your question but I feel that we have enough interest on the Curtis families on the DeKalb List that if we will work together we could make a large file of all the descendants of those four men and maybe their father. I'm sending to the List in hopes of help. Bob [email protected] <I am also interested in knowing more about the Curtis Family. Although not my direct line, they inter-marry with many of my families. I grew up in DeKalb Co. and knew the Curtis families that lived in Dowelltown and Alexandria. I remember the John Wesley Curtis that you mentioned in one of your earlier emails. His step father, John Davis' first wife was Martha Fite (Fite is my line). This John Davis' mother was a Laurance ( also my line). Do you know if the Will Curtis that lived in Alexandria and had sons Jack, Ova Jay, and Orval ties in to the DeKalb Curtis family that was on Dale Ridge in the early 1800's? Tom

He married Mary Elizabeth Jacobs in DeKalb Co, TN, December 17, 1874. Mary was born in Wilson Co, TN December 21, 1856. Mary was the daughter of John Wesley Jacobs and Sarah Porterfield. Levi then married Mary Jacobs in 1874.

    3. Etta, Thanks for giving me the credit, but most of the Curtis information is from Cheryl. She and I and several others do work together on the Davis lines through which she and I both descend from. Are you a descendant of Zachariah Davis - s/o lewis Y. Davis and Nancy Fite? Does anyone have any more information on Lewis Y. Davis family? I show 13 children for him - but mostly just names. Lewis Y. (what does that Y stand for?) was a brother to my Solomon Davis and a brother to Cheryl's John Davis Jr. Does anyone know when Lewis Y. David married Nancy Fite and where they are buried? I'm also looking for information on Aaron Davis! Thanks for any help! Appreciate the additional information on Zachariah Davis descendants! So if you're a descendant of John Davis Sr. (abt 1776 - abt 1843 DeKalb Co., TN) who married Abigail Duncan (d/o Elijah Duncan) about 1800 probably Rutherford Co., TN and was in the Hannah's Branch area of TN by about 1810 - please drop me a line at [email protected] Have a pretty good record of my Solomon Davis and Cheryl's John Davis Jr - but could use some help on some of the others. 2. I never heard of the Edge family, but I do know that VanHooser bordered my Holcomb line in Warren Co. land deeds. Also my Holcomb married a Martha Newby. A big help to me with the Newby line is Bonita Mangrum of McMinnville. She is in the phone book & an expert on the Newbys, also her own line. She may even have something on the Edge group because I know that Geo. W. Newby was in her records.

    3. <Need information on a Lula Curtis that was a guest of Miss Belle Curtis as reported in "THE LIBERTY HERALD" newspaper dated February 7, 1900. Also need information on Miss Belle Curtis.> Miss Eva Belle Curtis is the daughter of Matthew & Elizabeth Curtis. Lula Curtis is the daughter of Mary Curtis. Mary Curtis married John Davis on 13 December 1899. She had Lula & Wesley Curtis living with her in 1900. They were listed as Step Children of John Davis. Belle and Lula were living in District 20, Dowelltown Township, in 1900. This is near Liberty. I don't feel that there is any other Curtis researcher on the DeKalb List. I have posted more than one query to the list with no response. I would like to correspond with you on the DeKalb Curtis lines. You can contact me at [email protected] .net. Bob
