Dekalb Co TN (county seat Smithville) was created in 1837 from parts of Jackson and White counties as well as from parts of some other counties. Putnam Co TN was created in 1854 from parts of Fentress, Jackson, Overton and White counties. Betty > Smithville never in Jackson or Putnam cos. I finally got it to open up....Interesting. I'm going to check Washington County VA records to see if this might very well be the same George Smith who was on Wolf Creek. There would not have been a DeKalb County in 1834. Could that area that is now Wolf Creek have been situated in White at that time? I didn't know there were any Whaleys in Tennessee! I am descended from Whaley Newby of the Amer. Rev. in VA. His mother was Mary Whaley, born in Scotland, died before March 1742 in Lancaster Co., Va. Does anyone have anything to contribute on the Whaley family in TN? Any help is appreciated. Thank you. Carol
Whoops! Forgot/overlooked fact that John's sister, Elizabeth, married a Caleb Fryly, so it could have been him that filed a protest to John W.'s pension application, and not Caleb Fryly Puckett, John and Elizabeth's nephew. Will check details over weekend and post any update/info I find. am just beginning my research and have very little information to share so would appreciate anything you have. May not be the same Smith line but would like to check it out. Thank you.
I also am tied to these folks through Matilda's father, John W. Puckett, my GGG Grandfather. I've 11 kids for T. J. and Matilda in my database: Timothy, Prior, Amanda D., Walton, Alvin, Merida, Naoma, Sethe, Wayman, Matilda and Malvina, plus other descendents for Timothy, Amanda D., Walton and Matilda. Matilda's sister, Malinda, married T. J.'s brother, Elijah Smith. T. J. and Elijah were sons of George and Silvey Smith. Would be glad to pass on what I have.
