This book is like similar books produced by history/genealogy societies in counties in all states of our country. A few people take on an enormous task with very little help. These people are not certified genealogists or professors with history degrees. Most have never done genealogical research in state archives or participated in the rigorous research required by some lineage societies. These few people are just regular folks who still live in the county or near to it and have a great love and pride for the people who have lived in that county and the events which have occurred there over the years. The Decatur County book was a project which took about a year. The family articles are as good as what was submitted. Some family names are not included because no one of that family submitted information. My book is open to the first 2 pages in the family section - James and Rozina Aaron born ca 1805; George W. Adair came with his parents form Giles County in 1854; William M. Adams born 1869; Gary L. Adkisson born 1952; Edgar C. Akin born 1912; John F. Akin born 1836; James E. Akin born 1868; William V. Akin born 1785; John Akins, Sr. a Revolutionary soldier; Charles Alexander born 1820; Lewis Goff arrived in Decatur County by 1850. The information may be of little value to someone who has researched a number of years on a particular family and so already knows the same information, but it could be a gold mine to someone just starting a new family line!
