Hi folks, Hoping that someone on this list has viewed microfilm of any Tennessee Land Grant, either on microfilm from Mormon FHL or at Tennessee State Library and can help me. Using below as example and then my question. West Tenn, district grants, v. 3 1846 -FHL US/CAN Film {1013339} One of my ancestors, Thomas HAY of Decatur Co. TN, received a TN land grant of 313 acres in 1846. The grant was recorded in West TN district, bk 3, p 292, grant # 2132 MY QUESTION: Is " bk 3 " the same thing as " v.3 " of FHL microfilm? As a less costly option instead of ordering copy of land grant from TN State Library & Archives, I thought I would order the microfilm from Mormon FHL for $3.75 versus the $10 it costs to request copy of land grant from TN State Library. Also, if someone knows what the "Congressional Reservations line" was, would greatly appreciate an explanation (see below). Thank you. Linda, So. CA West Tennessee Land Grants. Purchase grants based on an act of Congress authorizing Tennessee to perfect titles to vacant unappropriated lands south and west of the Congressional Reservations line, entered through county land offices at $0.125 per acre for land in the Western District, west of the Tennessee River, see Acts of Tennessee, 1841, Ch. 7 and 1842, Ch. 34.
See http://www.tngenweb.org/tnland/terms.htm for some land explanations. It shows the following: Congressional Reservation An area in south west Middle Tennessee and the land of West Tennessee, set aside by the U. S. Congress for the use of the Chickasaw Indians. This area was purchased from the Chickasaw people in 1818. Continental Line In Tennessee land records it means the same as Military Line or boundary of the Military Reservation. I don't know if that might help or not. I don't know about the microfilm question.
