He was a Police Detective, and died of Lockjaw Oct 9 1935, when my mother was 20 months old. The only thing I've come up with is a James Tucker in Johnson Co,Tn Dist 2 1920 census (seven years before he married my grandmother) He is the right age, 19 years old and he is married to a Hollie with a son less than a year old. I can't make out the name. I'm thinking something happened, and somehow James ended up in Louisville,Ky, a Police Detective at 27 married to a 15 year old .....Does ANYONE have information for me????

Hi Oma; I too am researching the Creasy's of Hardin and Decatur Co., TN too. Are your Creasy's related to the Bird Creasy family? Freddie and I have been working on them. I sent your message to him and told him that you were trying to get hold of him. My great aunt, Mary (Mollie) Williamson married William LaFate Creasy. His father was Bird S. Creasy who was the son of Vernon Bird Creasy who was the son of Vernon Bird/Byrd Creasy Sr. who was the son of John Creasy. This is as far back as I have. I do have information on their wives and families. Let me know if we have related Creasy's, I would love to exchange information if I have anything you want. She was born Feb. 3, 1903 in Perry County, TN; married Arthur Farris Brawley on Dec. 5, 1924 had the four children you already know about and died on Oct. 16, 1936 in Decatur Co, TN. She is buried at Lone Chestnut Cemetery in Decatur Co. For many years there was no tombstone for her but my father, Forrest P. Lafferty, placed one there sometime in the 1980's. She was the daughter of Thomas Pleas & Ethel (Thompson) Lafferty.
I received in inquiry about the F. B. Parsons buried at the black Jeanette Cemetery. But in looking a bit at the Parsons family, I have come up with my own question. Does anyone know which John Parsons the City of Parsons is named for? In "History of Decatur County Past and Present," Chapter X, Decatur County Towns, the late Lillye Younger wrote: "Before 1889 Henry Myracle owned a large, flat piece of land, the present site of Parsons. In order to get a town started on his land, Mr. Myracle deeded one hundred and forty three and one-third acres (143 1/3) of land to the Tennessee Midland Railroad Company on April 11, 1889. "The land was divided into lots. Mr. Myracle keeping every other row of lots. By so doing this, he not only made money for himself but also promoted the growth of the new town. The town received its name from a Dock Parsons, presumedly son-in-law of Henry Myracle." Also in Younger's book is "A History of the Parsons Family" by Clarence Parsons, who states:"Dr. John Parsons also settled in these two counties, living in what is now known as Parsons, Tenn., and practiced medicine here in this area for about 50 years. Dr. Parsons owned several pieces of land at one time or another, and according to the records in the State Archives in Nashville, owned 300 acres north of railroad track in Parsons. This railroad, built in the 1880’s, ran from Memphis to Perryville. The officials of this, the Tennessee Midland Railroad, honored Dr. Parsons by naming the town of Parsons, Tennessee for him." The family of this John Parsons is given II. John Parsons 1806, wife Sarah Ingram 1. Margaret C. Parsons 1834 2. Abigail Parsons 1836 3. Jasper Parsons 1838 (Dr. Parsons second wife) Mary Ann Long 1824 4. Thomas S. Parsons 1845 5. Barby M. Parsons 1847 6. Amanda Parsons 1850 7. John Franklin Parsons1853 In an article about Parsons in "Decatur County, Tennessee Families and History" Edwin C. Townsend writes: "Located on Buckner Street about two blocks north of Main Street was a stagecoach inn operated by John Parsons. Parsons owned a considerable amount of land known as Parsons Flat. The survey crew for the Tennessee Midland Railway stayed at the Parsons Inn while they were surveying the right-of-way for the railway. John Parsons had a daughter who was married to Henry Myracle. The Myracle family also owned a great deal of land adjoining the John Parsons tract." Three issues: Dr. John Parsons, but Dr. of what? What Myracle marriage? Which John Parsons owned land at Parsons Flats? Dr. John Parsons Clarence Parsons listed the Dr. John, his wives, and their children. This family can be identified. John and both wives are buried at New Beech Grove Cemetery west of Lexington. John died in 1879 so he was not the Parsons Flats land owner when the railroad was built 10 years later. Now as to "Doctor" John probably was not an M.D. but rather a D.D. (Doctor of Divinity) as his tombstone notes him as Rev. John Parsons. New Beech Grove Cemetery http://www.tngenweb.org/records/henderson/cemeteries/newbg.htm Henry Myracle Henry Myracle (Oct. 28, 1819-Aug. 23, 1894) is buried at Myracle Cemetery in the Beacon community. His wife was Elizabeth Cox. His daughters known from census and cemetery data are Mary C. (who married H. Flowers), Sarah J. (who died as an infant), Margaret A. (who died unmarried at age 20), Mahala (who died as a child), and Matilda (who married William F. Boren and died at age 19). The connection between Henry Myracle and the mystery John Parsons seems to be only that they had adjacent land holdings. Myracle Cemetery http://www.tngenweb.org/records/decatur/cemeteries/myracle.htm John Parsons the property owner Clarence Parsons listed the older "Dr." John Parsons with seven children. The oldest was Margaret 1834. She would match a Margaret Parsons said who married Paul H. Fisher in 1852. She died circa 1858 and is said to have been one of the people buried on the water tank hill in Parsons. The old John's seventh child was John Franklin Parsons 1853 who married a Betty Rains (Rains lived near what is now Beacon and buried at Duke Chapel). The elder John and his son John seem to have ties to Parsons. John Franklin Parsons seems the best candidate for the innkeeper who owned land near Parsons and for whom Parsons is named. Another John Parsons was John Walker Parsons (1861-1940), son of Sam Parsons and Levira Ingram, and grandnephew of both the older John Parsons and the older John's wife Sarah. John Walker Parsons married Roxie/Rosey Jackson. This family is discussed in "The Descendants of James Holden Jackson" by Joel Franklin Jackson. John Walker Parsons' children are listed as born either in Decatur Co. or Henderson Co. John seems to have been a tenant farmer who moved periodically. Children born in 1887 and 1889 are said to have been born in Henderson Co. This John's family is on the 1900 census in Henderson Co. The families of both John Franklin Parsons and and John Walker Parsons mostly left the area. John Walker Parsons went to Dunklin Co., MO about 1911. David

Richard, Sure wish I could help you, but unfortunately my dad moved away from Tennessee in 1928, came here to Georgia, and never went back. In other words, I don't know that Claude Allen isn't (or wasn't) one of my dad's half-brother's Tom or Cleve Allen's sons. I realize that doesn't help, but it is a possible starting point. Tom and Cleve's father was Richard P. "Dick P." Allen. Dick P. Allen was born in Madison Co., TN in 1859 and died in Luray in Henderson, Co. in 1923. Tom and Cleve's mother was Amanda Tracy Gibson, daughter of Wiltz Tracy of Perry Co. She died in a buggy accident in 1916. The boys gravitated over to around Parsons in Decatur Co., where their brother Jim ran a shoe repair shop until his death in 1934. Jim had one son Hobert who died in the army. Tom and Cleve both married McClanahan sisters, however one of them first married a Snyder girl, who died shortly after they were married. As to offspring and what happened next, I am at a dead end.
Read your input. I do not have any known connection to those you are seeking but do have an Allen in my line that I do not know anything about him except his name, the woman he lived with and that he was last known to be in Tn. in the late 1930's to early 1940's. His name is Claude E. Allen. Do you happen to have anything on him in your line? Wish I could have helped you. Thanks Richard
I would like to hear from any ALLEN researchers, and especially any who have traced back their lines to early Perry County. There is, for example, a Joseph Allen who appears in the 1820 Perry County census. A James Allen and a Rich Allen signed a petition to move the Perry/Humphrey County line in 1822, 23, and W. H. Allen and Samuel Allen appear in the 1840 Perry Co. census. My Allens moved over to Perry County from Madison County, TN in the early 1860's, and I suspect a connection with these early Allen settlers in Perry County brought them there. I am still working to flesh out the descendants of Richmond/Richard P. and Mary Allen, particularly in Decatur and Henderson counties. In Decatur County, there's Rilla (Riller) Allen (d. 1912) who was married to Robert J. Smith, and Nancy (Nannie) Allen who was married to Roger Mitchell "Mitch" Gibson. Also in Decatur Co., I need to know more about Tom and Cleve (William Cleve) Allen, sons of Dick P. Allen and Amanda Tracy Gibson Allen. In Henderson County, there's the descendants of James M. and Lydia J. Moore Allen. This James Allen died in 1922 or 23. Any help I can get will be appreciated.
If available, I would like the obituaries of Elbert Washington "Eb" Sparks who died in 1946 and his wife Mary Estel Volner Sparks who died May, 1971. Thank you Sharon Tomlinson
Do you have obituaries for the Tanner family? I AM ESPECIALLY INTERESTED IN WILEY F.TANNER AND SAMUEL TANNER ALL OF WHICH DIED IN THE 1800? THANK YOU FOR ANY ASSISTANCE YOU MAY GIVE. BETTY HAMPTON
There are books of Marriages by Fred Alexander. the Decatur county library probably has a copy and could look it up for you. If not, I will try to find my copy and look it up for you. Marie -----Original Message----- From: Peggyt1950@aol.com Sent: Aug 25, 2004 7:47 PM To: TNDECATU-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [TNDECATU] FLOYD Family I am researching the Floyd family of Decatur County. I can make some assumptions based on the census records, but there are no marriage records available before 1865 online. Can anyone tell me if there are marriage records for Decatur County before 1865 and how they can be accessed? I would also like to hear from anyone who is researching this family. My main target is William Forest Floyd born 1864 in Decatur. His mother was Elizabeth ? and his father is undetermined at this time, although I have a few ideas. I would appreciate any help at all.
