Could it be the Lelar LEMMONS in below is your Lela LEMMONS. At least that is the way I read her first name, drop the "r" and it would be Lela. 1910 CENSUS TN, Decatur Co., District 10 household #168 living on Scotts Hill Rd. Lelar LEMMONS female age 12, b TN her mother Ada Lemmons, head, age 34, widow The above "Lelar" would have been born about 1898. Try to get copy of marriage license, if available, it may give age of Lela LEMMONS. RE: your query Joe Maness married Lela Lemons on 13-Sep-1918. Does anyone know anything about Lela? The land was in Caswell, CO., NC.on Rattlesnake Creek near the Dan River and the VA-NC border. His son, John B. Davis born Sept. 25, 1756 in Prince George, CO. MD. moved with his family to Orange later Caswell, CO., NC as a young child. He stated this on his Rev. War pension record. The New Hope Methodist Church, still active today, in Blanche, NC. has a sanctuary dedicated to our John B. Davis. He was a friend of Bishop Francis Asbury during the Rev. War. His will was proved in Oct. 1841 in Caswell, CO. . It lists his son, Enoch Davis and grandsons as well as daughters, Sarah [Haddock] Nancy, Elizabeth and Lucy [Montgomery] . It does not list all of his children. In 1828 he deeded land to his son David Davis who married Jane Montgomery and moved to Henderson, CO., TN. On the 1786 Caswell tax list we see John Sr., John Jr. and Hezekiah in the Richmond District. In bordering districts we see several Henry's, Cornelius, Jonathan, Nicholas, George, Allen, Passell, Jacob Davis. Searchers often get several views of the same person where lore and records do not match. John Davis Sr. circa 1730 [Ann Boswell} MD-NC John B. Lewis R. Goff (7/18/1811—4/18/1894) married Miranda Kelly (4/3/1823---5/23/1900) James Henry Goff (1809--- after 1850) married Sarah Long (1814---after 1860) Edmund S. Gawf (1794---1883) married Jane ‘Jennie” Long (1796---1880) Stories are told that each GOFF was an orphan named BARR or BARLOW, reared by a family of GOFFS and took the name GOFF. Other stories say they were brothers. Thirty years of research has not found material to confirm or refute these stories. We believe that DNA testing can answer some of these questions and have DNA testing of descendants in process and need more volunteers. If you are a direct male to male descendant in unbroken line of any of these GOFFS and want to participate in these tests, please contact James Ed Goff (egoff1922@chartertn.net) or Maureen Pierce (Meps516@aol.com). Many descendants of these GOFFs can be found in Decatur County, Tennessee.
