Pat, My gr gr grandmother was Mary Caroline CHALK DELANEY. She had a brother James Whitfield. James had a son J. Houston who married Anna. This is probably the Jim Chalk. He was born 1867 and died in 1967. I would love to know more about his siblings and even his own children . Actually my dad probably knows if this is the same. My father Robert Lee Mayo was deputy sheriff in Decatur Co., under Jim CHALK. Yes I have checked deeds. And I have copies of several. One of them is how I found that Elizabeth, his wife, was married before. But the only thing I've found about his death is those court minutes which I sent for and received. But they do not have how he died. They do give me a time frame. S. L. McClure died before 5 Jan 1870 (Dec TN, Co Ct Min, 1/93-96, 131, & 2/109, 130). Elizabeth died before 1 Nov 1875 (Dec Tn., Co Ct Min 2/211, 214). Hi everyone, I've been stumped for some time on Samuel L. MCCLURE b abt 1830 TN d abt 1868 Parsons, Decatur Co., TN. He married bef 1853 Elizabeth WHITE b abt 1835 TN. Elizabeth WHITE had previously been married to James BROCK who left his property to a W. A. J. BROCK. Their children are Charles C. A., Marsha J., Lavina Kezar "Kizzie," my ggmother (who married William Phil LUNSFORD), Mary Lentine, and Robert S. I believe Samuel's parents are John and Viney MCCLURE and Elizabeth's parents are Elijah and Kissen WHITE. Family lore states that Samuel L. MCCLURE was killed because he was to testify as a witness to a murder. I've checked for probate records (which I think did not start until 1869) and they had no record of Samuel's death. I have found court minutes about bond being set for his widow and children, but nothing about how he died. Does anyone have any information about Samuel's death and this family or could point me to where I might find that information? Thanks, Trena
