I am searching for the family of Mary Jane Gibson, born November, 1853 in Tennessee, who married Newton J. Hendrix in Decatur County on February 2, 1871? Mary, Newt, their children and Newt's mother and brother were all living together in Decatur County in 1880. I thought Mary Jane was the daughter of Austin and Elizabeth Gibson because they were living next-door to Newt and his family in District 5 in 1850 and 1860, but I am told this is incorrect. Are there any Gibson researchers out there that might have a will or other documentation that might connect Mary Jane to a set of parents? Thanks! Karen

I know this is very vague but if you have anything that might give me a clue as to who or what to look for I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance. Ann in Texas

Renea, I don't think so. The census for 1900 indicates Mary Jane Gibson's birth date was November, 1853. The 1880 census also supports this birth year. Also, I have Newt and Mary Jane's wedding license, and she did not need her parents' permission to marry. That's why I'm pretty convinced that I'm on the right track -- at least with her birth date! Renea, I guess I knew that all along, but just forgot that the Decatur list encompasses all three. It's been awhile since I worked on the Hendrix/Gibson line. Thanks! Remember that the Decatur Co list is still a list which discusses all 3 counties. Due to the movement patterns of our ancestors and the county line changes, one could be listed at some time in all 3 and not even move or at least not much of a move <VBG> Renea Burkholder [email protected] TNGenWeb Decatur Co., TN http://www.netease.net/decatur/ TNGenWeb Perry Co., TN http://www.netease.net/perry/ ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, August 31, 2000 2:17 PM Subject: [TNDECATU] 1870 Henderson County Census > I know this isn't the Henderson County mail list, but I was wondering if > anyone has the 1870 Henderson County census to look up an entry for me? Can anyone look up an entry on the 1870 Decatur County Census -- Covington Tubbs was living in Decatur County in 1870 (roll 1524, page 78). I'd sure appreciate any help finding out who was living with Covington in 1870, as well as who his neighbors were. Thanks for any assistance you can give me!!! Karen
I know this isn't the Henderson County mail list, but I was wondering if anyone has the 1870 Henderson County census to look up an entry for me? I have two small children at home and can't get out to the LDS or library to look these up myself. (The boys aren't too impressed with microfilm readers and being quiet). I'm searching for information on Elender Hendrix (roll 1537, page 179). She was apparently living near Lexington and was listed as head of household. I wonder if she is possibly the mother of my husband's great-great-grandfather, Newton J. Hendrix (a/k/a Isaac N. Hendrix)? I found this family in 1850, 1860, and 1880 in Decatur County, but cannot find them in 1870. By 1900, they had moved to Dyer County. I had hoped they were still in Decatur County in 1870, but so far no luck finding them. Newt Hendrix and Mary Jane Gibson were married in Decatur County in 1871, and Newt's brother, William P. Hendrix, married Lucinda Odle in 1871, so I know the family was in the vicinity -- I just haven't been able to find them! She was always listed as "E." Hendrix, so I assumed her name was Elizabeth. She was apparently never married but did have three children with the same man. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated! Karen

Jerry Butler surveyed and submitted the Butler cemetery of Decatur Co. It has been added to the county page and is now available for viewing! I have also added a few new surnames to Perry Co. In the last 3 weeks I have entertained a son and daughter-in-law from VA, moved all my geneal. data from one computer to another (had no idea it would take days!!), packed up and moved another son to UT Knoxville, did my inservice, and started school. We've had 7 school days in which I had 1 new student who has already left, and 3 new students that were unexpected. As a special ed teacher, each new student means paperwork and the designing of his own personal curriculum. Treading water has finally ended and I think I'm actually headed to shore. Thanks for all your patience and helping to answer each other's questions, etc. Will be updating web site in next hour or so and hopefully everything got moved over correctly and when I finish the sites will still be there, but if not you'll know what happened and that I'm frantically trying to redo!! I am searching for anyone who would know about the marriage between D. BLANKENSHIP and Amanda A. RIGGS. They were married on August 6, 1891 in Decatur County, TN. Bondman was S. P. Loftin. My great grandmother's name was Amanda A. RIGGS and there is a possibility that this may be the same person. I would like to correspond with anyone having knowledge of this couple. Thank you in advance. Wanda RIGGS Ketelhut
