    3. While indexing old newspapers of Van Buren County, Arkansas I ran across an obituary for George L. Rogers. He was born April 18, 1847 in Henderson Co., Tennessee to A.J. & Mary Rogers. He died Feb. 8, 1935 at the age of 87 years, 9 months and 20 days. He moved to Van Buren County in 1854. I'm not related to the Rogers family that I know of but have seen it mentioned on the Henderson/Decatur County list before. Hope this helps out someone. Donnie

    2. Hello! So you made it. I was just re-reading your note on the Weakey Co. Board and going through The History of Scotts Hill, TN (which is on the border of Henderson/Decatur Co). Unfortunately I didn't come across anything on your families (although the book isn't indexed so I'm always finding tidbits I missed the first few times through). Good luck on your search. You're very welcome. :-) If any of you on the list know anything of the Leasure or Morgan families in Perry Co. about 1890, I'd appreciate some info. Also, am searching for the parents of Phillip Anderson Shelton b. 1859 in Ala, but was in Perry Co. sometime around 1900. His wife was Nancy Jane. Their children were Mary Elizabeth, Dorkis Caroline, Cora Bell, Willie, Dora Ann and George. Thanks, Diane in TN.

    3. Thanks to those that answered me. My Daniel Smith joined the 7th TN Calvary in Paducah KY in 1764. I believe he was from Decatur Co since he seems to have stayed in the western part of KY, IL and then eastern MO. Betty

    1. [TNDECATU] Laydy's Bluff?
    2. Is there a separate internet mail list for Perry County? I visited the Perry County webpage, didn't see it, I may have overlooked. If not, does anyone know anything about an area called Lady's Bluff, could be off or near Highway 13? It is, or was, on east side of TN River. Not sure if spelling is Lady's or Ladies My 75 yr. old cousin told me that the story goes in the family that our ancestors were on TN River, the river was so high they couldn't land on west side so landed on east side instead, then settled in area called Lady's Bluff. It is my impression from my cousin that this would be early days, mid or late 1820's, 1830, 1840. It is definitely before 1850 because our mutual ancestor is on 1850 Henderson Co. Census. Please accept my apologies if I should be putting this on Perry County mail list. Since I haven't researched Perry County at all, your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you. Linda, So. CA

    3. It so happens my 3 great grandfather signed up in Tennessee to be part of the 7th Kansas Cavalry for the Union. It would be worth your while to check which Union forces had sign-ups in Tennessee. By the way, he was from Henderson county, but married in Decatur county in 1865, a year after he mustered out. Pat Hansen -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, December 12, 2000 6:39 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [TNDECATU] Searching for a SMITH Replying to your inquiry about a Smith ancestor and that he was in the Union Army-he would not have had to go North to join up. Several Union regiments were formed in Tennessee. My gr grandfather was mustered into Co A, 7th. Tenn Calvary, U.S. Army August 20, 1862 in Jackson, Tennessee. Your Smith could have bee in this one, but it is not the only Union regiment from Tennessee. Maybe he was from Decatur County instead of the town of Decatur. All of these locations are in West Tennessee. Good luck. Nelle

My ancestor DANIEL SMITH b 1845, gave his birthplace as Decatur TN when he enlisted in the TN Volunteers, Calvary, Union Army. He enlisted in Paducah KY. I assume he had to go North to join. He was mustered out in Nashville in 1865. According to his pension papers he lived in IL after marrying a Sarh Hutson, then after 1870 moved to Butler Co MO where he stayed. I have been unable to find him in the 1850 and 1860 censuses, or find which Smith family he came from. Has anyone done any research on the Smith's in Decatur or any of the surrounding counties? I also tried the SMITH's in the town of Decatur on the eastern part of the state. Lots of Smiths, no Daniel. Betty
