Following is what I have found about the first Steagall family in Perry/Decatur Co. If you are related or have more information, please add to this message. 1820 Census for Perry Co. Absolom Steagall born ca 1774 in NC wife, 5-6 sons, probably 6 daughters 1830 Census for Perry Co. Absolom Jacob Absolom William I believe these are the 1820 Absolom and 3 sons who have married and established households. 1837 tax list for Perry Co Lists only William P and John J. The father Absolum would have been too old, Jacob may have moved on as I do not find him in Perry Co again, but the younger Absolom should have been taxed, but I did not find him on list. 1840 Census Perry Co Absalom Jr Absolom Sr I believe Jacob is in Fayette Co, TN William P is in Marshall Co, MS 1850 Census Decatur Co Absalom, Sr. has died Absalom, Jr. John J. son Henry Alsberry I fell pretty sure that Absalom Jr, John J, and Henry Alsberry are sons of Absalom Sr. Jacob and William are the only other Steagalls in area of the age to fit in Absalom, Sr's household in 1820 and then to be married with own households in 1830. I believe Jacob is still in Fayette Co, TN for the 1850 census and then moves on to Leon Co, TX. I believe William P. is in Jackson Co, AR for 1850. Absalom Sr's wife was Elizabeth. I do not know her maiden name, but believe they married in Anson Co, NC. I find Absalom, Sr. in Anson Co, NC for 1800 and 1810. The sons all indicate on later census' that they were born in NC except Henry A who was born about 1820 and states he was born in TN. By 1820, Absalom, Sr was already in TN. I have no idea who any of the daughters may have married - any ideas?? Carey/Cary Family in Henderson/Carrol Counties Looking for any descendants of Michael or Samuel Carey, b. abt. 1760 - 1770 on Eastern Shore of Maryland. Moved to Orange Co., NC abt. 1795 and on to Henderson Co., TN, abt 1821. Lived near the Carrol Co line, best we can tell. Michael married Leah Ennis on Eastern Shore of Maryland. Brother, Samuel, m. Rachel, died in NC in 1818/1819, however, son Thomas, we think, and family moved to Henderson/Carrol Co about same time. Samuel's other children were Benjamin, Margaret or Peggy, and Anne or Nancy. One of Michael's sons, Daniel Carey, my great-great Grandfather, moved to Hempstead Co., Ark around 1851. Brother Elijah and Stephen also moved to ARK. Michael and Leah had children among whose names, we think, were William, Elijah, Daniel, David, Stephen, Levin, John, Sarah and Mary. Appreciate any help. - - Rex Carey
