    3. >From the History Channel website: Family Tree : Tracing your family's roots is an exciting and fun exercise in personal history. It used to be that filling in branches of a family tree was often impossible or would take years of research, but now it's much easier thanks to internet databases. Follow professional and amateur genealogists as they reach back through time to discover a fascinating personal history. Actor William Baldwin traces his family's roots back to 1638. Screenwriter Randall Wallace's interest in learning about his Scottish surname becomes an important factor to inspiring him to write the screenplay of Braveheart. African-American Rohulamin Quander unlocks his family's history by discovering the evolution of his name. DNA testing has also become critical to clearing up facts about kinship mysteries, such as whether Thomas Jefferson fathered slave descendants, and whether or not Queen Victoria was illegitimate. 3. I have a copy of the Shoemaker Pioneer Book, which does mention my ancestors, and the Street Shoemaker for whom I am seeking info. Unfortunately it doesn't have all the answers. It is, however, an excellent resource if you are researching the Shoemaker line. I got my copy from: Phyliss Shoemaker 95 Winterwood Dr Londonderry, NH 03053 That was about a year and a half ago, so you should confirm availability and cost before ordering. At the time it was being sold for $55, incl shipping. 1. [TNDECATU] GOFF BRAWLEY DETON BLACKBURN
    2. Mary Ella BRAWLEY mr'd John Riley GOFF in 1869 in Decatur Co., TN. John's brother Christopher married Julia BRAWLEY in 1872 in Decatur Co. Julia shows up in census records with father Thomas G. BRAWLEY. I figured Mary Ella & Julia were probably sisters but can't find Thomas G. BRAWLEY in an 1860 census, which would show the connection to Mary Ella. I got a death certificate for Mary GOFF, daughter of Granvil BRAWLEY (b NC) & Susa DETON (b NC). Shows Mary b. 18 June 1854 in NC & d. 17 May 1917. The Corinth Cem. transcripts has my Mary b 20 Feb 1852 & d 8 May 1917. Census records say she was b. in TN. So the only thing that the death cert. agrees with other records is that a Mary BRAWLEY married a GOFF, died in May 1917 & was buried in Corinth Cem. How frustrating! Of course I could just blame poor Artela Blackburn of Decaturville who filled out the death certif & presume she did it ALL WRONG. Who is she & why did she complete it instead of Mary's husband? And maybe Julia's father, Thomas G. was Thomas Granville but there's also a Thomas G BRAWLEY (presumably Jr.) floating around b. May 1854, same time as my Mary so perhaps I'm trying too hard to fit her into this family . . . . OK, I'm rambling. Can someone help put me out of my misery????? ANYBODY got info on the BRAWLEYs, GOFFs, DETONs or Artela BLACKBURN in Decatur County TN? Does anyone know how to contact Dale KENNEDY who posted a query in 1997 on BRAWLEYs. His address isn't good anymore (was [email protected]) I do have The History of Scotts Hill, TN by Turner which has info. on the GOFFs (as well as my WHITE, DAVENPORT, HOLMES, & SCOTT lines.) 3. I hope you will take time to read this article and become part of "making this happen." ___________________________________________________________________ "MAKE FAMILY HISTORY MONTH HAPPEN!" by George G. Morgan ("Along Those Lines . . .") Family History Month is not a "done deal" yet. Congress is off on its annual summer vacation and a recent search of the Thomas Web site reveals that no such resolution has yet been introduced. In order to declare October "Family History Month" beginning this year, the resolution must be introduced, passed, and signed. It is almost September and much work still needs to be done. George discusses how Family History Month can benefit you and your research, and what we can do to make it happen. He includes sample letter for readers to send in to legislators in Washington. <http://www.ancestry.com/library/view/columns/george/4468.asp> REPRINT POLICY: We encourage the circulation of the Ancestry Daily News via non- profit newsletters and lists providing that you credit the author, include any copyright information (Copyright © 1998-2001, MyFamily.com Inc. and its subsidiaries.), and cite the "Ancestry Daily News" (http://www.ancestry.com/dailynews) as the source, so that others can learn about our free newsletter as well.
