I am searching for info. relative to Iverson L Brooks who came to Tennesse about 1849-1850 and I think attended law school there somewhere. He married a Bettie A Lee or Lea in 1857-59 somewhere in Tennessee, she was born in TN in 1843 ? They were in Arkansas by 1860 with 2 children. Iverson l Brooks came from Caswell Co NC. Any info is helpfull, especially for Bettie (Elizabeth?) AND I found some TN site that may be of some interest to someone. http://www.segenealogy.com/sgo03.htm http://www.segenealogy.com/tennessee/tn_map.htm http://www.segenealogy.com/tennessee http://www.segenealogy.com/sgo03_tn.htm Thanks Chris
I would be interested in the reunion at Pin Oak Lodge next fall. I live less than an hour away and would not be interested in staying over night. You did not say what day we would meet, but I assume that it would be Saturday. My Dodd ancestors owned property in Henderson Co. which joined the Decatur Co. line. My Eubank ancestors owned property where Cub lake is now. I will be interested in learning more as the time gets closer for the reunion. I got the following address from the Ancestry Daily News. It is an animated map showing the formation of the counties of TN. There is also a link to a map of the US. If your family is like mine (especially my Murphys and Vises) it is hard to keep up with them, not because of their moving, but the county line moving. It just gives another avenue to search in case you cannot find them on consecutive census in the same county. Hope this helps. http://www.segenealogy.com

Hello, I am also a Rice decendant of Decatur County Rices. As you probably know there were 3 different Rice families in Decatur County in the 1800's. I do not know if the families were related or not. My ggg grandfather was Joseph M Rice. He is listed on the 1850 Decatur County census as an apprentice tanner living next door to Jack Walker in north eastern Decatur County, Not far from J. G. W. and Lavinia Smith Rice. I would welcome any information that you might have about these families. Lee, thanks for your suggestions. I will go to work on them! Bonnie Malburg
Hello Everyone, My grandmother, Ella Nancy Kesiah Duncan (Davis) taught school in a one room school house prior to her marriage. I have never been able to locate where this school was. Is there any records I could to access or does anyone have any ideas on this? Thanks for any direction, Bonnie
There should be records in the office of the Superintendent/Director of Schools. Also, the TN State Library and Archives may have microfilmed these records. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, November 23, 2001 9:33 PM Subject: [TNDECATU] School, approx 1900 > Hello Everyone, > > My grandmother, Ella Nancy Kesiah Duncan (Davis) taught school in a one room > school house prior to her marriage. Minnie Gilbert was at one time the Postmistress of the post office in Luray, TN in Henderson County. I was told in 1979 that she was related to my grandfather, Richard "Dick P." Allen, also of Luray. Grandpa Dick P. Allen died in 1924, and his wife Sally married the postman Mr. Lafayette "Lev" Stanfill. Grandpa Dick P.'s first wife was Amanda Gibson nee Tracy of Perry Co. Their sons James E., Thomas J., and Grover Cleveland "Cleve" Allen, all born prior to 1885, all gravitated toward Parsons and other parts of Decatur Co. They had daughters Ida, Emma and Sarah, as well. I would welcome the chance to exchange information about any of these individuals and learn more about the older children of my grandfather and Amanda Tracy. Any information about Minnie Gilbert and how she relates to Dick P. Allen would also be welcomed.
