Surnames: Clift, Baker, Miller, Moore Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/JeB.2ACE/186.189 Message Board Post: Ken, I have a copy of an old photograph of several people on the porch of what looks like an old plantation type house. Those shown and named are William (Bill) Baker, Benjaman Green Baker, Caroline Beasley Baker (wife of Benj.), Lela Baker Miller (dau of William (Bill), Thurman (dau of John and Ellen Baker Clift), Zack Clift, Molly Haynes Moore and baby(Hubert Moore)(Molly died in 1901), Margaret C. Baker, Edith Clift, Belvie Clift Gibson, John Clift, Allie Mirian Baker(Allie mar Charlie Miller, she died and Charlie mar Allie's sister, Leila). It was taken in the 1890's. The Benj. Baker would have been born in 1818 in Decauter Co. I am wondering if Ellen Baker Clift would be his daughter. I don't have any info on the Clift's. I believe Margaret C. and William (Bill) are his children. All I know for sure is Benjamin G. Baker is the older brother of William H. Baker my husband's gggrandfather. Ellen is not pictured. This is a zerox copy and not very good. Any information! on these people would be welcome. Thanks. Mae

The index to Decatur Co. TN marriages, compiled by the Alexanders, shows W. C. Hudson & Francis(sic) Creasy, license dtd. 21 Jan 1919, married 29 Jan 1919, by J. P. Tucker, J. P. Sorry, I don't know how or whether W. C. Hudson fits in my line. I'm missing the 1870 census data for my Hutson/Hudson family and these were all too fond of using initials only. My interest is in the family of Philip Edward Hudson/Hutson, originating from Randolph Co. NC, probably the son of John Hutson and Susannah Wilson. Supposed sons of this Philip E. Hutson migrated to AR, then OK, TX and LA. They are believed brothers of Charles A. J. Hudson (m. Jennie Burns) who remained in TN and had relatives in Lewis Co. and Madison Co. TN. Sue

My father "Otean" is the first Curry in my family not to be laid to rest there, his brother Heubert, also is not burried in Scotts Hill,he is laid to rest in Arkansas. I rememeber my dad talking about Scotts Hill and Decatur County ever since i was a kid,so when i found this web site by total accident,to say the least i was floored. He was born 1873 in Tn according to 1910 Madison Co census. He married Mary Elizabeth Goodman in Decaturville Aug 20 1903. They had children Mergia,Delia and James. Mergia and Delia were born in Decaturville and James in or near Jackson. Found them in 1910 Madison Co census. Rice had a metal plate in his head that eventually killed him. I heard he was in a mental hospital before he died. I assume he died around Jackson TN and I'm not sure when. I know his wife remarried in 1912 in Memphis, but I also heard she took up with someone else before he died. He could have died in 1912. Rice use to work on the railroad in Jackson, I assume his wife and kids use to ride the train to Jackson for weekends before they moved there. Thanks for answering my posting. I am researching Hugh MONTGOMERY who lived in the Cumberland Gap of Tennessee in 1834 when my gggrandmother was born (Armilda Jane MONTGOMERY who later married Rufus Taylor LIGHTFOOT). I believe my Hugh MONTGOMERY possibly had a brother named James, as they both lived in Claiborne co. in 1840, but moved before 1850. Is your James possibly related to this bunch? I'd love to hear from you and compare notes. I'm just getting started on this branch of my family tree and know very little about the MONTGOMERY line, I'm afraid.

NC. Then a Jacob Maness shows up in Scotts Hill, TN., married to Hulda Austin, daughter of Charles Austin and Phoebe Woodward. Phoebe's sister, Cynthia is my GGG-grandmother. She married Benjamin Clenney. Cynthia and Benjamin were parents of my GG-grandmother, Ann Clenney, who married Andrew J. Caudel, son of Absalom Caudel, Jr. Am trying to find if there is a connection between Elizabeth Maness and Jacob Maness. There were a lot of inter-marriages between these families, as there were in most others at that time. I do not know where any of the Maness' went. I have the book "The History of Scotts Hill Tennessee" by Dr. Gordon H. Turner. It looks to me as if I connect to everyone there, one way or the other.

    3. Hi Barbara, Glad to hear from you. Yes, the reunion will be on a Saturday. Do you have a good file on your Dodds and Eubank line? If not, do you know anyone who does? I may be related to your Dodds. My gggrandfather, Jeremiah Johnson's second wife was Dicy Dodd. She was the sister of Griffin Dodd who owned a lot of land in Henderson Co Tn. I believe they came from Chatham Co N C. My great aunt, July Parthene Brewer, called Julia, married B Frank Dodd. Both, along with most of their children are buried in the Prospect church cemetery, located at the Northern tip of the Henderson-Decatur Co line. Thanks for planning to attend, I will keep you advised a we get closer to the scheduled date. Bill
