Thanks for replying. Unfortunately many records in Allen Co., Ky were destroyed in a courthouse fire. I have researched the Cushenberry family for over 30 years thinking they were my grandparents. My Mary Freeman was raised by Aaron Perry and Rebecca Ann Cushenberry and she lived around them until they died. Aaron Perry died in Allen Co., Ky in 1885 and Rebecca's will was probated in 1887 in Allen Co., Ky and my Mary was named as Mary F. Lewis , wife of John Lewis in the will and their children was left valuables in her will. However, now, I see she was not named as "daughter." Rebecca Ann Cushenberry's parents are James Cushenberry and Mary "Polly" Pulliam in Allen Co., Ky. I just recently found out about the marriage record of my Mary Freeman that married my John Lewis 10 Sep 1869 in Allen Co., Ky by Wm. K. Morgan. The marriage record is partially charred from the courthouse fire. My Lewis line is proven and they came from White Co., Tn. There is a John Freeman that married Elizabeth Watson 23 July 1834 in Allen Co., Ky. Elizabeth's death record states she was 40 years old when she died 15 Dec 1853 in Allen Co., Ky. She was born in Franklin Co., Va. Her parents are Elijah and Sally Watson. Since my Mary Freeman was 7 years old in the 1860 Allen Co., Ky census living with Aaron Perry and his wife Rebecca Ann Cushenberry and was 7 years old that gives her a birth date of 1853. I am wondering if Elizabeth Watson Freeman could have been her mother and died in childbirth. ?? I don't know who this John Freeman is or where he came from or went to after Elizabeth's death in 1853. This is why I am looking in TN records because of Walker's Line that Tn and KY had a dispute over the state line about where Allen Co., Ky and Sumner Co, Tn is. Many questions with no answers right now. When Allen Co., Ky was formed from Warren Co., Ky in 1815 there was a Benjamin Freeman there but I can't find any info on him either except he had a wife named Peggy. Sometimes these actions were not officially recorded in court records, but from what I can tell by researching the Perry's and Cushenberry's, Freeman was not part of the group they traveled with or were related. So...I suspect you will find a court record in Warren Co. Kentucky in which Mary Freeman was officially bonded over to Aaron Perry sometime bet. Her birth and the 1860 census. You may also find a will or estate record for a Freeman during this time period. Also, in cases such as these, Aaron would have been required to make regular accountings to the court of his ward's welfare - but my experience leads me to believe this didn't always happen. In case you haven't acquired a copy of the marriage license and the register, it might be beneficial because Mary was underage when she married and would have needed permission to marry. It would be interesting to see who gave that permission. It would also be interesting to see who the bondsman/men were. Bear in mind that the marriage license is separate from the marriage application so you need to specify that you'd like copies of both (if available). Allen County was formed from Warren County in 1815. My grandmother Mary Freeman married John Lewis 10 Sep 1869 in Allen County, Ky. Apparently her mother must have died because she was living with the family of Aaron Perry and Rebecca Cushenberry as 7 years old in the 1860 Allen Co., Ky census. I am trying to find who her parents are. One census says her mother was born in Ky and her father in Tn. I have seen a Benjamin and a John Freeman in these counties in Ky but I don't know who they are. Any information would greatly be appreciated. Marianne Dillow Illinois
The John Freeman that may have married Elizabeth who was the dau. of Elijah & Sally Watson of Franklin Co. VA (from her death info online) & died 12/15/1853 may be who I found in the 1860 census (after this Elizabeth dies IF she's the same Elizabeth). This family is in Jackson, Maries Co., Missouri but the father's name is William not John with no wife but their daughter Polly (age 15 in the 1850 census) is now 25, dau. Louisa (age 9 in the 1850 census) is now age 22, Ezekiel (age 8 in the 1850 census) is now age 15, Isaac (age 0 in the 1850 census ) is age 7 in the 1860 census, Dillard (John D. age 4 in the 1850 census) is now age 10, and there is an unnamed child age 4 in the 1860 census. I believe this is the 1850 Warren Co. KY family and where they went after Elizabeth died. Lots of censuses from decade to decade record ages inaccurately. All these individuals in the 1860 census were born in KY - something that one of the children may have assumed their father was born if the census taker asked the child for the family information. Why they would have left Mary behind is unknown to me unless Elizabeth died in childbirth and her husband could not stand to have her around OR when she died another family offered to care for the infant and grew attached and she remained in their household. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to TNDAVIDS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
Thanks for the information. I had no idea where this family went to. I guess I really want to know why and how my Mary Freeman that married John Lewis was taken in to raise by Aaron Perry and his wife Rebecca Ann Cushenberry by age seven and what the circumstances were. Sometimes it helps to follow the presumed family through the years. Her siblings may mentioned "Mrs. Lewis" as a surviving sibling in their obits or her father's will. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to TNDAVIDS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to TNDAVIDS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
