    1. [TNDAVIDS] Maria McLean and Marcia McLean, daughters of Charles P. McLean and Maria Foster Searcy

    3. I research the Wendel family from Shenandoah County, VA, and recently found that Bennet Searcy and Mary Wendel had a daughter, Maria Foster Searcy, born 1799 in Davidson County, who married Charles P. McLean. She died in 1818 at Davidson County, leaving two young daughters, Maria D. and Marcia S. McLean. On 19 JAN 1819 Charles was appointed guardian of the daughters. An 1885 Tennessee Supreme Court case, "Pope v. Alwell", which arose in Montgomery County, describes a dispute over real estate property titles that dated back to the guardianship of the two daughters of Charles and Maria McLean. In that case, reference is made to descendants of the two girls, but no names are provided, and from the content of the case, it is not possible to tell whether either of the parties was such a descendant. In the 1850 census, there is only one "Marcia" in the correct age range in Davidson County, that being Marcia Carlisle, age 33. An ancestry.com online member tree does not show her surname, but indicates she was the wife of William Carlisle, who is not shown in 1850 but is shown in 1860, at Edgefield. In 1860, his wife's name is shown as "Mariah", age 45. Since Maria McLean was at least a year older than Marcia, one could almost surmise that William Carlisle first married Marcia, and then Maria -- but that's just speculation at this point. There were children including a son Samuel born 1842 who lived to 1903 in Nashville, according to the member family tree. I searched the archives of this list, but failed to find any of these names. Does anyone on this list recognize any of these names, or know of another researcher who might have information? Thank you very much for anything. Don Boyd http://www.landofthebuckeye.net/

    2. No marriage records for these McLean girls in Davidson Co. McLeans left the county fairly early. No marriage for Wm. Carlisle 1789-1864.
