This has happened to family and friends. Once you click on "their Link", they have successfully hacked into your computer. They then have access to your entire email address book and start sending emails to your contact list that look like they were sent by you. They have also acquired all your information regarding online credit card purchases. So it's all about money. Be very careful and if you did go to their Link, WARN your family and friends that you were hacked. Actually it can be a lot worse - you could get infected with ransomware. An entire hospital got infected when an employee clicked on a link in a funny email. This is increasingly common. These are organized criminals, usually in other countries.
