Looking for information on the family of William P (Uncle Billy) Hampton born Aug 8 1789 in a part of North Carolina that became Tennessee not long after he was born. William married Malinda ( maiden name unknown) born in Virginia about 1792. William and Malinda had seven children , at least two of which were born in Tennessee; John H., James P. Mary Adelaide, Elizabeth, William Irwin, Lemira, and Elizabeth. William left Tennessee sometime around 1825 or 1828 for McLean Co Illinois, stayed there til about 1835 or 1838 when he moved on to Dade County Missouri. William died in Dade Co. in 1855. I would like to find out what part of Tennessee William came from, who his parents were, and if he had any siblings. I have not been able to find any trace of William before he appreared in Illinois. Census records list his state of birth as N.C., but history books from McLean Co. and Dade Co. refer to him as a native of Tennessee with a connection to Wade Hampton of Civil War fame. Unfortunately, none of the books say how he is connected to Wade Hampton. Any help would be appreciated and I will share all information I have on later generations of Hampton's.
