In December of 1904, the city fathers changed the street names in an effort to reduce the perceived confusion for potential customers. Thus the streets, beginning at the Cumberland River and running west were: Front St.--1st Ave. Market st.--2nd Ave. College--3rd ave. Cherry--4th Summer--5th High--6th Vine--7th Spruce--8th Buena Vista--9th Maple--10th The changes can be found in the city directories for 1904 and following. The Friends of Metro Archives might have this on their page, but I am not certain.
