I want to share with you the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS), which contains information about almost 2 million physical and cultural geographic features in the United States. Probably a lot of you are already familiar with this site. For those of you who are not, I think you will find the site really helpful. To get an idea of how the GNIS works go the the site and follow the instructions below. You can put in any state and any county. After you do the cemetery search, you might try putting in a surname of family you have in the county at "Feature Name" and see if there are any hits. Leave "Feature Type" blank. http://mapping.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html At "State or Territory Name" choose Tennessee, at "County Name" type in Davidson, at "Feature Type" choose Cemetery. That is all you need to enter. Scroll to the bottom and click on "Send Query". You will find links to this site and many other useful web sites at the Metropolitan Archives of Nashville and Davidson Co. web page: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/3661/ Debie
