" The Tennessee Industiral School is an institution for the benefit of orphan, helpless and wayward children. It is situated about three miles from the court-house in Nashville, on the Murfreesboro Pike. It was established mainly through the efforts of Judge J. C. Ferris, of Nashville. The property consists of a farm of ninety-two acres, upon which have been erected, from time to time as needed, building of different kinds. This property was the gift of Colonel E. W. Cole, and was when given valued at $60,000."
