    3. I checked one of my source books, Seedtime on the Cumberland, written by Harriette Simpson Arrow. It mentions a Douglass family, Pg. 334. It mentions that several settlers of Middle Tennessee were men who in 1783-84 got "lucrative appointments and choice lands, notably the Bledsoes and Daniel Smith" who "were experienced borderers and took an active part in both fighting and treating with the Indians. A few others of the Revoluntionary soldiers, such as the Winchester brothers, Tilman Dixon, the DOUGLASSES and Edmonsons, are often mentioned in accounts of Indian warfare." The footnote which accompanies this passage is, "Joseph Bishop came out with Captain William DOUGLASS, father of Elmore, already there...Elmore settle in what was to be Smith County and was mentioned by travelers - Rev. Asbury preached at this home in the fall of 1800 - and was prominent at the local level." I don't know how Hugh and Alexander DOUGLASS fit in, but thought it was worth mentioning since these DOUGLASS men were all in the general area in the same general time period.
