    2. Before you go, read up. Go to the regular ( not genealogy) part of the library and look in the states section. Read a history of the state and fi there is one, fo the county...and any other books they have on the area you are going to visit. Then you will know what to see and what to ask. That's good advice anywhere you are going . and Walmart carries atlases of each state ( for the one state you are in, and maybe an adjacent one) . It is VERY useful to have right there oin the car seat.It shows roads, creeks, and all the topography.They go for about $16 and I have one from each state I have family ties in. Also get county maps that show all the dirt roads and " pig tracks" so you can plot out the tracts of land the family owned... grants and all that. I am a MAP NUT! It's a genealogists best helper.
