I had thought William was likely one of the "over the mountain" Tennesseans who joined the fight but now I think I can put that idea to rest. Remember that King's Mountain and Boyd's Creek, etc. were in fall of 1780.....at that time, summer of 1780, the Cumberland Group were busy fighting Indians around present Nashville so I doubt you would find a man who was in both places. Henry Turney's brother Peter Turney was at Boyd's Creek and perhaps King's Mountain while Henry was busy around Ft Nashborough.
