Gene gave a good description of where it is located. The name comes from the Gower family who were among the first settlers on the Cumberland. Grass and trees in Middle Tennessee are brown right now from the drought. Or you can skip all of this and just go to any map utility and query a map of Davidson County, TN. Find Ashland City Highway and follow the path of that road near the river and you will see the island. II'm not finding anything in my files of a property genealogy of the island but from helping with the research of Metro Archives patrons, I seem to remember that the island was owned first by James Russell, then by some of the Gower family. If Bill Meadows is on this list he can tell you who some of the later owners were, I think. I found the island on the nashville.gov site planning maps. The current owner is Wallace Investors, LLC and the property description is 36.95 acres - GOWER ISLAND S OF ASHLAND CITY HY W OF BACK CREEK RD Debie ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour
