    1. [TNDAVIDS] Seeking parents of William H. WRIGHT, 6/14/1867 TN - 2/15/1952 OK
    2. Athena, Goddess of War
    3. William "Henry" Wright once told a grandson that his parents died young and that he had a sister that he lost touch with and couldn't find. Looking at census records, in 1880, Davidson Co., TN, I find Marina WRIGHT (Dec. 1812 - d. after 1900 census), living as a widow with her grandson, William (13) and granddaughter Anna (15), next door to two of her sons, Aron WRIGHT (b. May 1839) and George W. WRIGHT (b. Feb. 1843) and their families. When Marina was widowed sometime between the 1860 and 1870 census, Marina went to live with one of her sons, Moses M. WRIGHT, b. ca 1836. On the 1880 census, Moses is not found at all. This family lived their whole lives in Davidson County, TN. Marina WRIGHT appeared on the 1900 census at age 87. I would like to determine if Moses WRIGHT was my great-grandfather's father. I would also like to know the cemetery where Marina WRIGHT is buried. Her husband (James W. WRIGHT, b. ca 1791) and Moses may be buried nearby. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks! Julia in Northern Idaho --------------------------------- Cheap Talk? Check out Yahoo! 3. I see that Martha and her children were living in Ward 19 of Nashville in 1900. Since they were living in the city itself, they will be listed in the Nashville City Directory, with their address and occupation. You have narrowed down Mahlon's death to just a few years, so finding the family in the years preceding 1900 should tell you which years Mahlon was with them, and what year he was no longer with them. You can request lookups in the Nashville City Directories, one year at a time, from the Metro Archives of Nashville and Davidson Co. TN. For ordering instructions, go to http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~nashvillearchives/researchpolicy.html Kathleen in CA ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, January 25, 2007 11:51 AM Subject: Re: [TNDAVIDS] Mahlon Jones > Mahlon L Jones to Elizabeth Nelms should be the parents of the Mahlon I > am working on. 1. Re: [TNDAVIDS] Mahlon Jones
    2. Mahlon L Jones to Elizabeth Nelms should be the parents of the Mahlon I am working on. My grt-grandfather Mahlon was born in 1847 in Nashville. I believe his parents to be Mahlon & Elizabeth and to have three siblings (Mudora, Elarena, and William). Mahlon's second marriage was to Martha A Johns Gregory Stinson on May 12, 1892 in Franklin (Simpson Co) KY. Application shows it to be his second marriage and her third marriage. I have copies of this. Duncan Curtis Jones their only child together was born March 03,1894 in Franklin Ky. By the 1900 census Martha (Mattie) is in Nashville with Duncan and her two children from Stinson marriage (Rebecca & Oren (Ora)) and Mahlon is deceased. I believe he died in TN. I have paperwork showing they sold the house they lived in while in KY. Martha was from NC and seems to have spent her first two marriages in KY. I believe she moved to Nashville with Mahlon and then he died. But I cannot find a grave for either. I searched online with find a grave and with the Nashville site where you can look at all the cemetaries that they have listed. Trust me it is a long list. I went through the names cemetary by cemetary trying to find them. So Mahlon's first marriage was somewhere between 1860 -1892. I just don't know if it occurred in TN or Ky. Thanks to everyone for looking for me. And thanks on the marriage names I had Elizabeth as a Nebons will try looking with the Nelms name. BTY I have managed to trace Ora Stinson's family to present day. She married into Rutledge in Memphis and have traced it though several marriages to present day family. I sent letters to the addresses I found hoping to get some king of info as Mahlon was her step father. But no one will respond to me. Again Thanks everyone! Sharon Jones Trussell

    2. Cece
    3. Do you know if he lived in the same area all his life? If so, he might have married at the same church. With a surname like Jones, it would be a long hard search through the church's records, but might be worth the while. If it was a big church, the LDS might have filmed the records and might have them indexed. The only other way is to guess a time frame, a county you are sure of, and spend a lot of time going through all the entries, or paying a genealogist. Happy Hunting !! Cece--ps--try to get his death certificate. They usually have the funeral home on them, and then the funeral home has info on the burial site. Even though you have a common surname, you have an unusual first name. Maybe the county records have all death names indexed, and you can look from 1895 to 1900. I hate to say this but I get a lot of help from calling the various records depts. and ask for help. After I explain my problem, so many people are willing to help. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]>; <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, January 24, 2007 9:13 PM Subject: [TNDAVIDS] Mahlon Jones > Does anyone have any ideal how to search for a marriage record when you do > not have the brides name or even a date of wedding? > My great-grandfather Mahlon Jones was from Nashville Tn. 1. [TNDAVIDS] Grant and Glover Surname
    2. Allen Grant
    3. I am new to this discussion group and am seeking anyone who has access to the marriage records from around 1800 forward. I believe Thomas Grant and Sarah Glover may have married in Davidson County around 1800, as their first child was born about that time. The part of Davidson County they lived in became Williamson County in 1799 and Maury County in 1807. If you have access, would you check to see if their names appear in any of the records? I guess it is not out of the realm of possibilities that they could have been married somewhere in North Carolina. Some of my notes and those of others, suggested they married in Maury County, but that it is not possible due to the county changes around that date. 2. Sharon You may contact Metro Nashville Archives and request a marriage lookup. Send only one request at a time. If the record is for genealogical puposes request a copy of the original certificate. For a surname lookup such as Seagraff for a 30 year period you may have to hire a researcher or visit the archives in person to look through the marriage volumes. Metro Nashville Archives has only Nashville/Davidson County records. The research policy for Metro Archives will provide information on how to order: _http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~nashvillearchives/researchpolicy.html_ (http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~nashvillearchives/researchpolicy.html) Marriage records for Davidson County before 1956 are also available from the Tennessee State Library and Archives. >>Message: 2 >>From: Sharon Olsen <[email protected]> >>Subject: [TNDAVIDS] marriage lookups I am looking for Marriage records of Annie Lou Boone (bn 10 Jul 1890, Davidson Co)to: Fletcher Waller (bn abt 1885, Missouri) married 25 Dec1917 ? 2. I also own that one, written by a cousin of mine, ( ours?) I also have the ones by Sarah Foster Kelley, Children of Nashville and West Nashville. Love them both ( and miss Sarah who dies a few years ago). These are the best, but I always look in the regular section of the libraries in the state area and read up on the founding of TN there, as well as what is in the genealogical section. Index-search by your surnames in all of them! The do the same with familial locations. Catherine
