3. I am descended from John Stover, who married Kitty Garland in Davidson Co on 13 May 1817. They had a son named John Barnes Stover, b in 1821, and I've always wondered if there were a Barnes family close by for whom he was named. If anyone has any information on the Stover family of Davidson Co, I would appreciate hearing from you. 3. REBECCA TENNESSEE BARNS SMITH TOMBSTONE REBECCA TENNESSEE BARNS SMITH TOMBSTONE (REMOVED FROM ORIGINAL LOCATION) OH-29: NASHVILLE, DAVIDSON COUNTY, TN. OTTER CREEK RD. On day of survey site visit, 6-16-2002, Volunteers could see the inscription on one tombstone, located at the edge of woods. This was the tombstone of Rebecca Tennessee Barns Smith. The current owner was asked about the history of the tombstone. On purchase of the property, in 1989, the current owner found two very heavy tombstones in his front yard and decided to remove the tombstones, out of harm's way, to the edge of the woods in the back yard. During the relocation, one of the tombstones cracked and disintegrated. This was the tombstone of Henry Barnes. A previous owner, Bill Mitchum, was able to provide important historical information. When Bill Mitchum and his wife Anita Mitchum purchased the property in 1964, there were two tombstones in the front yard, leaning against large sycamore trees. He was told that the two tombstones were originally located in a graveyard on the Davis property on Otter Creek Road, near Hillsboro Pike. The bodies had been exhumed and re-interment, it was thought, took place at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The two tombstones were relocated to this property about one mile from the Davis land. On the Oak Hill Quadrangle topographical map, two cemeteries are shown in the area of the Davis property. One of these cemeteries would have been the original graveyard of these two tombstones. Mr. Mitchum took photographs of the two tombstones which showed the inscriptions. 3. I have some bits of info on a Barnes family which was in Davidson Co and married in 1790s if you are interested..... they were in the part which became Sumner County. They were the children of a Joseph Barnes and Selah DeLoach from Edgecombe County NC who were in TN maybe as early as 1782. The children connect to Turney, Saunderson, Braswell, and Clary families. Some moved to Alabama, some to Kentucky, and some to Arkansas. There is also a Nancy Barnes born ca 1786 NC who is in TN ca 1801 when her daughter Polly Barnes is born. Polly Barnes married 24 August 1822 in Indiana to a William Cullum SR and by 1840 is in Arkansas......perhaps with a stop in MO between the move from Indiana to Arkansas. Let me know if you need more info on these Barnes. Mary Turney married John Brnes 27 Dec 1796 in Gallatin, Sumner Co TN.....if that is any clue for you as to where some were located. Mary Turney's father was one of the original settlers of Ft Nashborough and I suspect he was near Mansker's Station, then 1788 he built a house in Hartsville, not that far from Gallatin. This is the Joe Rickman House on west fork of Goose Creek - Hartsville, Trousdale county today - but he sold this house in 1794 to his brother Michael Turney. Henry Turney was original owner of property where Spring Haven was later built - today located in middle of town of Hendersonville, Sumner Co TN - this was a land grant for 640 acres in 1786 when it was Davidson Co but just a bit later it became Sumner. In 1797 Henry Turney sold/gave some of this Hendersonville land to his son in law John Looney, and 200 acres to his son in law John Barnes, in 1801 he sold the remaining 200 acres to Edward Sanders. I would think a search of land grants and land records would give you some kind of location - they usually mention the nearest water (creek, stream, river, etc.) so that would give you a place to start. Also if they give the names of adjoining families - that would narrow it down for you by searching for their records. Also look at who was chain carrier on land survey - often a relative, trusted friend, or a neighbor. 2. John Cockrill's wife was Anne Robertson Johnson Cockrill ( my 5yth great grandmother) who was buried elsewhere when she died and later moved to that far corner alongside 4th Ave in the old Nashville City Cemetery. They have raised crypts, are not burried underground, and there is writing on the grave tops as well as a marker beside them. I planted some rosess and other flowers there a few years back, which were doing fine last time I was there.. At one time there WAS a big tree there but that tornado took it out. The city planted saplings of some sort in its place. I need to go back and check on things, I guess. catherine Fryer Cline

**************************************
See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

    3. Now, with the advantage of hindsight, I think maybe I should have stuck with just the basic information on John Bradford, particularly since what I am really looking for is information to connect him to his parents/ancestors. Sometimes too much information can only "cloud the issue," but it can also provide a spark that may lead to something else. Oh well. If it does look familiar to anyone, I'd sure appreciate hearing from you.
