    1. Re: [TNDAVIDS] what to see in Nashville
    2. Nancy Noel
    3. The TN State Library and Archives has a book called, “The Centennary History of Davidson County, Tenn” by W.W. Clayton, 1880. I found this to be a valuable resource when I was in Nashville researching ancestors. It was written in the last quarter of the 1800s, which was almost contemporaneous with my ancestors' time in Nashville. It covers all topics of life in Davidson Co. I found the descriptions of the boundaries of each civil district very helpful as well as the brief bios of people " of note" -- not Clayton's words, mine. The Metro Archives which houses much of the archives of the county of Davidson , rather than the whole state, as does the TSLA ( mentioned above), was a treasure trove for me. This repository held, among other helpful documents, the original marriage certificate for my 4th greatuncle and his wife. The largest treasure was the signature of my 3rd great grandfather, who was the JP that married them. This new piece of info helped create a chink in the brick wall that, for sometime, has been this family. The archives is located in a shopping plaza. Address is : 3801 Green Hills Village Dr Nashville, TN 37215 phone:(615) 862-5880 The staff are wonderfully helpful. You can learn more about the holdings at the Friends of the Metro Archives, wep page at URL: http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~nashvillearchives/index.html/ Happy hunting. Nancy

    2. Before you go, read up. Go to the regular ( not genealogy) part of the library and look in the states section. Read a history of the state and fi there is one, fo the county...and any other books they have on the area you are going to visit. Then you will know what to see and what to ask. That's good advice anywhere you are going . and Walmart carries atlases of each state ( for the one state you are in, and maybe an adjacent one) . It is VERY useful to have right there oin the car seat.It shows roads, creeks, and all the topography. They go for about $16 and I have one from each state I have family ties in. Also get county maps that show all the dirt roads and " pig tracks" so you can plot out the tracts of land the family owned... grants and all that. I am a MAP NUT! It's a genealogists best helper. 3. Hi It's a great city. I've been doing research on my family (Lark). I found my Great Grandfather William Lark buried in the cemetery at the Hermitage. I think it's worth the trip. Have a great time, wish I was going with you.
