Yes I talked to the nicest man yesterday. He was the one that told me it was possible and to contact the Attorney General's office. It's much easier in Alabama. Their HIPPA runs out after 70 yrs. I was able to get 43 years worth of records from Bryce in Tuscaloosa on my GGF including all the letters his wife wrote him and his attempts to answer, all the medical info. It was the most amazing cache of info I ever got. I think a lot of people who have family buried at the cemeteries behind Dell Computer may have to go this route. There is a white cemetery and an African-American cemetery there for those who died at the old Central State Mental Hospital. My great-grandfather, James Lawson Steele, died there in 1919, and Dell refuses to allow anyone back there, despite State law regarding access to cemeteries. ________________________________ From: jj <jj@tampabay.rr.com> To: di@montanapets.org; tndavids@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, January 26, 2013 8:48 AM Subject: Re: [TNDAVIDS] court order Sounds like they meant the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) that pertains to public access to government records. All the parents had to do was go before a judge and tell him their child was unmanageable and he would sign an order to commit the child to Central State Hospital and she had no recourse. They may have had to have a doctor's statement to back that up, but I don't know about that. I'm not sure if there was an age to where the child could get out on their own, or not. Surely there was. > From: "Dianne Armstrong" <di@montanapets.org> > Subject: Re: [TNDAVIDS] TNDAVIDS Digest, Vol 8, Issue 5 > > Yes that's the one. I'm not sure the exact date they closed. Hi Tony, We meet again. I forgot one piece of info when I posted this last night. WILLIAM ORR was also in the 1794 tax list in SUMNER county for 200 acres. So, it looks like he was back and forth between Davidson and Sumner counties. I don't know if he and my JOHN ORR are kin but they and a ROBERT OAR are the only ones I see in my area. I don't think anyone knows for certain but we think JOHN ORR might have a birthdate of ca 1750 as he died in 1798 in Sumner County and his wife FRANCES unknown died in 1813. There is only an inventory on him with no will. in Sumner in 1814 after Frances died.. I know what your taking about on county formations. That would include Walkers Line between Sumner County and Allen Co Ky. Some of my lines were in both. Thanks for answering.. I do not have a file at all on TN Sumner Co. Johnson and allied families, but on of the Hudson Familes is up there and so is a Patrick family. I am totally going from memory and that is all I can say is factual at this time. I will have to do a Sumner search in the library and see what comes out of other files. here is a time line on County Changes Tony > Date: Tue, 8 Jan 2013 18:08:49 +0000 > From: marlowest155@frontier.com > To: tndavids@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [TNDAVIDS] John Orr of Sumner Co., Tn. and William Orr of Davidson Co., Tn., Are They Kin > > Hi Tony, > > We meet again. My 5th great grandparents are JOHN ORR and FRANCES unknown. I descend from their daughter MARGARET "PEGGY" ORR who married WILLIAM OGLES 15 July 1803 in Sumner Co., Tn. Margaret Orr and William Ogles were both in Sumner Co., Tn and across the state line in Allen Co., Ky. My JOHN ORR died ca 1798 in Sumner Co., Tn and left an inventory of his estate which was not concluded until 1814 due to the death of Frances in 1813 in Sumner Co., Tn. Judy Try emailing the Tennessee State Library and Archives for their policy, fees, etc for making copies of newspaper obits - http://www.tennessee.gov/tsla/history/mailelec.htm Also the Nashville Public Library - http://www.library.nashville.org/localhistory/his_spcoll_gen_obituaries.asp Both facilities have Nashville/Davidson County newspapers on microfilm from the time period you are interested in. You can find a list of people who research for a fee on the website of the Middle Tennessee Genealogical Society - http://www.mtgs.org/mtgsnewlist.htm They all have different policies and fees, so you should inquire of more than one. It cost nothing to send an email, detailing what you need, including dates if known, and asking what the charges would be. Hi, Judy, I had to go to Nashville and visit the Archives to access the microfilm to find the obits for my great-great grandparents. I have not found an online source. NewspaperArchives.com is a subscription service with old newspapers but it does not have any Nashville newspapers. GenealogyBank.com doesn't appear to carry obits much earlier that 1977. Unfortunately, it does not appear that there are many active Nashville researchers who are members of this list. There was a website - Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness - that could put you in touch with a local volunteer researcher who could be your "feet on the ground", but I am not sure that is still an active site. Dear List, Is there a source for obits in Davidson County? I am seeking 2 obits (1913 for a CSA soldier & 1918 for his wife) of persons buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. I am open to any and all suggestions. Thank you, Judy in TX
Does anybody know a source for obits in Davidson County? I am seeking one in 1913 and another in 1918. These two were husband and wife. He was CSA soldier. They are buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Davidson Co. Thanks, Judy in TX
