    1. John Samuel CLARK (1828-1887)
    2. JayWay2
    3. John Samuel CLARK (1828-1887) born in Davidson County, Tennesse, reared near Louisville, Kentucky and died in Lamar Co. Texas, July 24, 1887. He was a lawyer and practiced in or near Dallas. He was wounded by a ticked off cattle rustler in court after winning a judgement against him, and was also wounded in the Civil War. He married Margaret Emily Hicks in 1865. I am looking for the parents and siblings of John Samuel CLARK. Looking for a CLARK in TN and KY is like looking for that proverbial "needle in the haystack." Any info would be much appreciated. Thank you, Terri Spurling JayWay2@aol.com

    3. I have been on this list for quite some time but am just now posting this family. If anyone on this Davidson County list has heard of a BOUVET family living in Davidson county in 1870 I would like to exchange info. My hopes aren't too high since there was only one Bouvet in Tennessee, John Baptiste...but he did have three sons unaccounted for: John, Henry and Thomas. His wife's name was Mary WEISHAUPT BOUVET. If anyone has any info on these people I would appreciate it. Sarah Fezio Fort Worth, TX jcross@metronet.com

    1. Denton and related families
    2. Sue Cook
    3. Hi All! I have updated the Denton Family Genealogy web site and added more down-loadable gedcoms for your personal use. These now include Moore, Hunt, Denton, Plumlee, Chastain, O'Dell and Cooper surnames, from the 1600s to present day. While these zipped gedcom files include those who married into the Denton family, they also include many more lines of descendants from common ancestors, and there are hundreds of these 'cousins' and their families. (These files are NOT the same as the on-line searchable database at the web site, and have hundreds more individuals.) Of course, the page still has biographies and wills and searchable database of hundreds of surnames, pertinent links and a little 'fun stuff' too! Mostly, these families moved from Virginia and New York through the Carolinas into Kentucky and Tennessee and then fanned out all over the country. If you have any questions about anything on the site or would like more information, please let me know! The address is: http://www.acun.com/dentons Blessings! Sue Montgomery-Cook

    3. IS ANYONE WORKING ON THESE? DENNIS McCLENDON born 1770-1780 N. C. died by Apr 1844 Davidson Co, Tn, married 19 Oct 1799 at Davaidson Co to Winifred GREEN (OR GREER). Winifred was born 1780 N. C. died 1861-1869 Davidson Co, Tn (don’t know her parents). DENNIS was a known son of SIMON McCLENDON b 1738 N. C. d ca April 1809 Davidson Co, Tn and 1st wife (a Sanford). Simon’s 2nd wife was Ann Snell King Blackman. It is believed that Simon only had children by his first wife. A deed of 1807 whereby Dennis gives a life estate , to “his father, Simon McClendon” in Davidson Co, Tn. Simon made a will 21 Jan 1809, which was recorded/proven by April 1809 in Davidson Co, Tn. His wife (at the time of his death) named as “Ann”, others named were “my sons Sanford McClendon, Jesse McClendon, Dennis McClendon, , my daughter Patty COOK, Mary SLADES (OR SLUDER, Slewder), executors were Chas HAYS and James HAMILTON A few of the many names present at his estate sales were: SMITH, CHAMBER, GORDON, SLUDER, TURNER, PATCH (or PORCH), SANDERS, PHELPS, BLACKMAN. I have the McClendon line back to early 1700s in N. C. My great grandfather, WILLIAM K. McCLENDON born Jan 1838 Davidson Co, Tn was a known grandson of the above Dennis and Winifred McClendon. To date, have not been able to tell which one of the numerous sons of Dennis and Winifred, was the father of my William K. Believe his father died or left when he was in his early teens or earlier. William K. married 9 Mar 1858 Davidson Co, Tn to Lucinda BARKLEY (Barclay) born 12 June 1842 Tn. Lucinda was the daughter of Joseph Harris BARKLEY and his first wife Martha JONES. Martha was daughter of William F. JONES and his 1st wife Lucinda WOMACK (Wormack). 1850, dist 3, Davidson Co, Tn census, there was a 13 yr old William K. that lived with what I believe was his siblings and mother Cynthia McClendon. The census taker made a mistake and reported Cynthia’s children with last name of Phelps instead of McClendon. Cynthia was living in the home of her parents, Silas M. PHELPS b 1784 N. C. and wife Jane b 1793 Va. AND Cynthia’s younger siblings. 1860 dist 3, Davidson Co, Tn census: William K. and Lucinda McClendon & 1 child lived very near many McClendon relatives such as: his mother and his grandmother, Winifred (Green/Greer) McClendon age 80 (widow of Dennis McClendon). Civil War, 1861-5: William served as Pvt in 7th Tenn Inf, Company D, ended up at Appamatox Courthouse. The 7th was also known as The Harris Rifles. William K. served in same outfit as his father-in-law, Joseph H. Barkley and his maternal uncle, Silas M. Phelps (Jr). 1870-1880. William K. and Lucinda lived in town of Lebanon, Wilson Co, Tn in 1870 and 1880 (dist 10-1870, dist 21-1880). In 1884, they left moving to northeast Texas with their children. Their oldest child married a BARKLEY (Barclay) before they left, the others married in Texas into these families: ROGER, CRUMP, CLIFTON, FAULKNER and 4 of them married a SMITH.

    1. REED/REID Family
    2. We are looking for information on the REED/REID family of JOHN and LAVINIA WILLIAMS REED of Rowan and Orange Counties, NC that migrated to Williamson Co., TN about 1800. They had 13 children. Their daughter HANNAH REED married her cousin (first?, second?) CALEB REED (ca. 1790-1836). They had nine children: 1) Unknown son (possibly Robert A,) 2) Leander James 3) Jerome Alexander Napolean Bonaparte 4) Pauline 5) Minerva 6) Eugenia Celestine 7) Martitia L.A.L.N. 8) Malinda 9) unknown daughter. Caleb and his family lived at Caney Springs, Marshall Co., TN. After his death the family moved to Flat Creek, Marshall Co., TN. We are looking for the ancestors of JOHN and LAVINIA as well as CALEB. We also need information on a LEANDER REED (1740-50 d. after 1830) who lived in Muary Co.,TN. I believe we are a part of the greater REED/REID exodus from York and Lancaster Counties, PA about 1752-1755. I further believe we are linked to the widely travelled HUGH REED of Rowan Co., NC, Ogelthorpe Co., GA, and Logan Co., KY. Any help is greatly appreciated. We are trying to sort this out for a "gathering" in the year 2000. Please circulate widely. Thank you. Brian C.
