    1. GOINGS/GOINES/GOWENS LOWERY HOOBERRY

    3. I am searching for information on Elizabeth GOINGS b. Abt 1790 and her sons, Alexander GOINGS b. abt 1822, Andrew Davis GOINGS b. 1/5/1831, and Thomas GOINGS b. abt 1832. They were in Goodlettsville, Davidson Co., TN in the 1850 and 1860 censuses. The family moved child by child to Graves Co., KY in the 50's and 60's. Alexander had the following children, all thought to be born in Davidson Co.: James b. abt 1840, Nancy J. b. abt 1841, Daniel T. b abt 1843, James William b. abt 1845, Hugh b.abt 1847, and Rosannah b. abt 1851. James may be a cousin rather than a son of Alexander's, as in the 1850 census, he was listed underneath Elizabeth's name rather than Alexander's, although Elizabeth was living with her son Alexander. Neither he nor Elizabeth were listed in the 1860 census. I have a marriage bond for Daniel T. GOINES to marry Ellen E. HOOBERRY, bond December 20, 1864. This bond was signed by Daniel T. and Thomas LOWERY (his mark). This bond was not accompanied by a certificate of marriage. However, there is a later bond, which I do not have, for Ellen E. Hooberry to marry Thomas C. Lovelace, December 1864. The only name we have for Daniel's wife is "Tissie". I have a bond for James W. GOWENS to marry Martha HOOBERRY, December 6, 1864. This bond was signed by James W. GOWENS (his mark) and William THOMAS (his mark). This bond was not accompanied by a certificate of marriage. I do not have a name for a wife of James W. I have a bond with a certificate of marriage for Nancy J. GOWEN to marry Robert H. LOWERY, 12/1/1864. I have traced Robert to living a few households up from Nancy's family with Thomas LOWRY in the 1860 census. Also he and Nancy are living next door to Alexander in the 1870 Graves Co., Ky., census. Nancy's bond was signed by Robert H. Lowery and Daniel T. Goines. Thomas and his family were listed in the 1860 Graves Co., Ky. census. Elizabeth was said to have come from North Carolina, but that could have been Knoxville, TN, at that time. We do not have the name of her husband. We think all three of her children were born in NC. The name has changed through the centuries to GOIN on my maternal line, but some of the other descendants' name changed only to GOINS. If anyone has any information that would help, I would greatly appreciate it. I am a direct descendant of Andrew Davis GOINGS, and have information for that family. I will gladly trade. 3. Seeking data on the ancestors and descendants of Samuel FITZHUGH (1765-1831) and his wife Lydia HOPKINS (abt 1765-1839). Samuel's parents were John and Mary BUSICK Fitchew/Fitzhugh of Dorchester County, MD. Samuel's paternal grandparents were Thomas and Susanna Fitchew/Fitzhugh of Dorchester County; his maternal grandparents were Richard and Elizabeth BUSICK of Dorchester County. Lydia's parents were Earle and Rachel Hopkins. Samuel and Lydia Fitzhugh moved from Dorchester County, MD, to Guilford County, NC, prior to the 1790 Census as did Earle and Rachel Hopkins. Eight children were born in North Carolina before they moved to Davidson County, TN between 1801-1804, settling on "Mill Creek" south of Nashville. Their children were Ezekiel, Richard, James E., JOHN B., Mary "Polly," Samuel F., Aerial or "Earl," Thomas Francis, and Benjamin. John B. Fitzhugh (1792-1861) married Nancy Blackman and had at least 10 children; one was my g-g-grandmother, Mary Leanne Fitzhugh, who married Presley Ward Oliphant. Bob Carney Williamsburg, VA

    2. Robert I. Carney
    3. Davidson County researchers: I'm seeking data on the BLACKMAN family - the siblings John, Bennett, and Ann - who arrived in Davidson Co., TN in the 1790s from Sampson Co., NC (considerable information is available pertaining to their ancestors). JOHN BLACKMAN was married to Nancy M. HAYS (second wife was Elizabeth Herring); BENNETT BLACKMAN was married to Susanna HAYS, Nancy's sister (Bennett's second wife was Ann CLINTON); ANN BLACKMAN was married to Charles HAYS, the brother of the two sisters. Additionally, a brother JAMES BLACKMAN and his wife Elizabeth Ann OATES migrated from Sampson Co. to Rutherford Co., TN in 1808 and settled at what was later to be known as the BLACKMAN COMMUNITY. Bennett and Susanna Hays Blackman were my g-g-g-g-grandparents. I'm interested in all four Blackman lines (i.e., John, my Bennett, Ann, and James). Bob Carney Williamsburg

    2. Mr. Carney, Have you researched the Carney line in Rutherford county, Tennessee? One of the Carney's married into the Captain William Lytle family. He is said to be the founder of Murfreesboro since he gave 60 acres of his land for the establishing of the town. A descendant of this Carney line migrated to Florida and has a very interesting history there. If you know of a connection, I can furnished you with information on this line. Margaret Nichol

    1. [TNDAVIDS-L] Davidson Surnames-Carney, Gulledge, Demonbreun
    2. Robert I. Carney
    3. Hello Davidson County researchers: I'm seeking data on the ancestors and descendants of William CARNEY and his siblings. Four Carney men were well established in Davidson Co. by the year 1799. Elijah Carney and Vincent Carney bought land on Dry Fork Creek the same day (6 Jun 1809). John Carney and William Carney both bought land on near-by Marrowbone Creek in February 1812. All four of these men were listed in Militia Companies of Davidson Co. in 1812. Within a five-year period, 1802-1806, William, Elijah, and Vincent were married, indicating by their age bracket that they were probably brothers. William married Rebecca GULLEDGE; Elijah married Elizabeth C. GOLDSBERRY; Vincent married Polly GOLDSBERRY; Lucy Carney, their sister, married John BLACKBURN; another sister, Martha "Patsy" Carney, married Edward BLACKBURN. William, Elijah, and Vincent were listed in the 1820, 1830 (spelled KERNEY), and 1840 censuses of Davidson Co. A John Carney (Kerney) appeared with the other three in the 1830 census. Family records appear to substantiate the children of Elijah and Vincent. Most Carney researchers are reasonably certain that Asa, Jesse T., Joshua, and Ennis Braxton Carney were the male children of William Carney and his wife, Rebecca Gulledge. (Joshua Carney and his first wife Sina Paralee BINKLEY were my g-g-grandparents; Joshua's second wife was Judith Jane DEMONBREUN). In the 1840 Davidson Co. Census, these four men with ages between 20 and 40 years lived on property adjoining William's who was then between 60 and 70 years old. In the 1840 census William and Rebecca were living on Marrowbone Creek in Cheatham Co. with all of their male children nearby. He is not listed in the 1850 Census. Rebecca still resided at the homeplace with her sister, Tabitha Dar, at the time of the 1850 census. She disappeared from the census records after that date. As you know, in 1856 Cheatham Co. was formed from Davidson, Dickson and Montgomery Counties. The Marrowbone area is located at the border of Davidson and Cheatham counties; my Joshua Carney lived on 781 acres of land lying in Cheatham Co., Civil District No. 1, on the waters of Big Marrowbone Creek. Again, I'm interested in ANY of the Carney lines connected with Davidson Co. Bob Carney Williamsburg, VA

    2. Willie Smith
    3. I've just been informed that some distant cousins, Henderson Parks and his wife, Manerva Rice Parks are buried at Spring Hill cemetery. I would like to have the birth and death dates from their markers, if this cemetery is indexed. Manerva was born in January 1883 and died about 1948. I have no dates for Henderson Parks, but he would have been born about 1880, I suppose. Hope someone on this list could tell me where this cemetery is located. Henderson and Manerva lived near Goodlettesville, so possibly, the cemetery is in the Gallatin Road area. Thanks Will Smith wolfslair98@ficom.net

    3. Is anyone familiar with a physical feature in southern Davidson's county called Patterson's Knob. It may also be in northern Williamson County. A Presbyterian church was there at one time. There was also a cemetery. The church had burnt down and the cemetery stones scattered during the Civil War. I have a book that says the church was 5 or 6 miles SE of the home my 4g-gf built on his land grant in Davidson County. 2. Sue Cook
    3. Hi! I thought I would let y'all know that I have a lot of Davidson CO families represented in my database at my web site for the Denton and related families. There are over 15,000 people in the database, plus a lot of other information on the site. If any of you have Dentons in your lines, I would love to hear from you! There are also some down-loadable gedcom files for families other than Denton that I have in my at-home database, such as Hunt, Moore, Plumlee, Cooper, Chastain, O'Dell, French, Shipman, Baker and Huff. All of these families intersect in some way with the Dentons, but have a great deal more information in the gedcoms that is on the site. There is a lot of other information on the site as well that you might find interesting, as well, since so many of the Denton and related families were early into Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama and Georgia as well as the Carolinas. The address is: http://www.acun.com/dentons I hope you find something of value! Blessings! Sue Montgomery-Cook
