I checked one of my source books, Seedtime on the Cumberland, written by Harriette Simpson Arrow. It mentions a Douglass family, Pg. 334. It mentions that several settlers of Middle Tennessee were men who in 1783-84 got "lucrative appointments and choice lands, notably the Bledsoes and Daniel Smith" who "were experienced borderers and took an active part in both fighting and treating with the Indians. A few others of the Revoluntionary soldiers, such as the Winchester brothers, Tilman Dixon, the DOUGLASSES and Edmonsons, are often mentioned in accounts of Indian warfare." The footnote which accompanies this passage is, "Joseph Bishop came out with Captain William DOUGLASS, father of Elmore, already there...Elmore settle in what was to be Smith County and was mentioned by travelers - Rev. Asbury preached at this home in the fall of 1800 - and was prominent at the local level." I don't know how Hugh and Alexander DOUGLASS fit in, but thought it was worth mentioning since these DOUGLASS men were all in the general area in the same general time period. My main lines are JENKINS, WRAY, MENEES and MATHIS/MATHEWS. I have some of them traced back to VA, but do not know where in VA. Then they settled in Davidson, Wilson, and Rutherford Counties, TN. After that, my main line moved to Boon Co. and Benton Co., AR. From there some ended up in OK, TX and MO. Hope someone has my line. Hello still looking for information on Corbetts in Nashville, Tn. in the 1860's. Robert B. Corbett was my g-grandfather and all I know about him is he was born abt. 1866. If anyone has any way of finding him I would be most greatful. Barbara
I am searching for information on William Edwin JACKSON, born abt. 1879 in Tennessee, married Georgia Ryman on March 8, 1906 in Nashville. It appears he and his wife lived in Nashville until their deaths. William died in 1932 and is buried at Mt.Olivet on the Thomas G. Ryman family plot. Who were William's parents? Was his family living in Nashville before he married Georgia? I know my next stop is an obit and death certificate search but wanted to know if there were JACKSON researchers on the list who may know William's family. Thanks for your time, Jeanne Johnson, Florida

Hi Davidson Co. Listers: Is there anyone out there that is researching NICHOLS? I am searching for more information on John NICHOLS and his wife, Nancy B. TAYLOR, who were married in Davidson County on 19 Jul 1851. In particularly, I would like more information on Nancy's parents and siblings and where she is buried. Thanks for your time, Jeanne Johnson (researching Bosworth and Ryman)
Barbara asked for a census lookup. If there is someone out there willing to do it, please let me know because I need a lookup on the same census. 1880 Davidson Co., Goodletsville, for Robert F. Looney. His wife's name will probably be Cora. I'd like to know what all it says about him and his family. My great-grandmother should be listed as one of his children. Thanks. Kiva
Don't know how helpful this information will be to you. I played a hunch that your Capt. James Corbett was a captain in the river boat industry. I looked for Corbett in "Steamboatin' on the Cumberland", by Byrd Douglas, published by Tennessee Book Company of Nashville, 1961. This book is out-of-print but may be found in bookstores dealing with such books in the Nashville area. Appendix A - Pg. 331, under "Regular Cumberland River Packets during the Period 1850-1860, Their Known Captains, and Date of Launching" the packet BEDFORD is named and J.N. Corbitt is named as its captain. Also the CASTLE GARDEN, C.E. HILLMAN, J.N.Corbitt, 1860. (Note the spelling is "Corbitt" in both) Mr. Douglas compiled his information from records on file at the Office of the Deputy Collector of Customs, from the Annual Reports of the Bureau of Marine Inspection and Navigation (Steamboat Inspection Service), the Annual Reports of the District Engineers, United States Engineering Department in Nashville, and from old newspapers published in Nashville and other cities and towns in Tennessee. In the Manuscript Section of the Tennessee State Library & Archives, Nashville, is a collection of Byrd Douglas papers which includes copies of many of the documents he researched. Hello. Is there anyone who would do a lookup in the 1880 census for Davidson County? I am looking for J.N. Corbett (Corbitt)(Corbet). I would greatly appreciate it. I am looking for my g-grandfather who I believe is his son born in 1866. Thank you, Barbara
I am searching for the parents of Mary Ann TAYLOR who was born abt. 1830 in Tennessee. She married Mathew LAMBERT in Davidson County in 1846. Mathew left Mary Ann a young widow after two years of marriage. Mary Ann is living with Nancy ARMSTRONG, Age 26 from NY, in the 1850 U.S. Census of Davidson County. Mary Ann married her second husband, Andrew BOSWORTH in 1851, and raised a family together. Her husband Andrew and her daughter are buried in Mt.Olivet Cemetery on the Solomon TAYLOR lot, along with Mrs. Esther TAYLOR (died 7/8/1863), Solomon TAYLOR (died 9/20/1866) and Howard TAYLOR (died 1/11/1890). Who are these TAYLORS and who are Mary Ann's parents? Thanks for your time, Jeanne Johnson
