I am told she either divorced the YARBROUGH or he died and then she married a Robert E Lee (not the famous one) and they had three children IDA MAE ROBERT E and a ROY I think they moved to Arkansas in the early 1900's. 2. Sorry to barge in, but was wondering where you were able to access The Tobacco Leaf -- I have one edition in my files which is almost completely devoted to Col. (and Sen.) .James Edmund Bailey's obituary(my great grandfather) -- and just realized other issues might be a "gold mine". Thanks for any clues/leads! Happy Thanksgiving to all. Cary

    3. Hi I am from Australia and have had difficulty getting into the Davidson County page. Would someone who may be looking at the 1860 Census for Davidson County please be able to tell me the names, ages, occupations and birthplaces of people in this household. I do not need to know the other information on the census. V. BEAUMONT Ward 6, Davidson County, Page #40, head of household I have been studying the BEAUMONTs of Clarksville, Montgomery County, TN in order to discover their descendants to connect with Australian and New Zealand BEAUMONT descendants. I have recently been told that V BEAUMONT may also be a relation. I have a Valentine A. G. Beaumont, age 38 years, died April 7, 1881 in Navasota, Texas, on pneumonia. Semi-Weekly Tobacco Leaf, May 6, 1881, p 1. and feel that V BEAUMONT may be Valentine or Valentine's father. A head of household called V. BEAUMONT was also shown in Ward 6 in Davidson County, page #40 the 1850 census if the 1860 census is unavailable. I thought the later census would be more helpful for my purpose. The 1870 and 1880 census indexes have not been checked and so I do not know if V BEAUMONT had left Davidson County by 1880. Thanking you in anticipation. 1. Richardson family of Nashville/Fairview areas
    2. Hi everyone: I've reached a stone wall (as most of us do in researching our ancestry) in looking for my father's ancestors. My grandfather was Ellis Eugene Richardson, his father was Murry or Murray J. (Jesse?) Richardson b 1855 d 1918 in Nashville. His wife was Eliza Jane Trotter 1861-1906. Murray's sibling were Laura Ann 1850-1925, James Franklin 1852-1900, William 1857-1884, Joseph 1860-1884, John 1864-1884, Polk Dallas 1867--1951 and Lula 1870-?. I was given the name of their father by a distant cousin as John W. Richardson 1826-1880 who married Paralee Merryman 1878-?. I have substantial information of John W's descendants but can find little about John W and Paralee. The 1850 TN census shows a John W. living in Nashville with the correct age. I can find nothing else about him. Any information or suggestions would be appreciated. Will glad share my info. Thanks, and have a Happy Thanksgiving. Ronnie Richardson

I have added several new things to the Friends of Metro Archives website. http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/3661/ Click on "Nashville A Hundred Years Hence" for a prediction of what Nashville would be like in 100 years. The article appeared in the "Nashville Spectator" in May of 1896. It was written during the Tennessee Centennial festivities. Check out "Nashville Facts" for some interesting tidbits of Nashville history. Debie

    2. In answer to Debie Dock1952@aol.com, I don't think the person realized that they had to send new mail to the list and not just respond to the email that they had gotten to be unsubscribed. An honest mistake that I have made myself a few times. When I read your email, it took me a while to realize that it was a posting to the list, and not a personal email. I thought I had really messed up and wasn't sure what I had done. Some of us are still quite new and we sometimes make mistakes. Glad you realized how you got booted off the list. I probably wouldn't have figured out why I was no longer getting any messages.

    1. contents of previous emails
    2. When you send email to a list, PLEASE DO NOT send the contents of previous emails you have received unless it has something to do with your topic. And then you only need to send the text that is pertinent. About two weeks ago I sent an email to the list. Someone sent the text from my email to the list in an effort to end their subscription. As a result I received notification that I have been removed from the list. I followed the instructions on what to do if I did not intend to be removed but don't know if I am still on the list or not. I don't understand how I was removed as the my email address was only in the body of the email and not in the header, but it would not have been anywhere if the sender had used common sense and courtesy when sending email. If you have no idea how to send email properly, I would think your server provides some instruction. Debie

    2. Looking for help in researching my ancestor Caleb Cotten he was listed in Tennessee records 1813, in the building of roads. Some of those he was listed with were John Brown Leroy Perkins, John Perkins, Elisha Phelps, Daniel Phelps Zodack Phelps, William Stokes, William White, Elisha Rideout, among others. I would like to learn more about some of these people, as they were probably neighbors of Caleb Cotton. The road that was being built was from ford of Hurricane Creek to Johns Brown's. 1. Early Cumberland Tennessee
    2. I am looking for information regarding early settlers of the Cumberland area. In the 1790's there were records for a James Cotton associated in records with Edwin Hickman, Thomas Hickman, Pleasant Lockett, John Brown, John Morris, Samuel Moore, Amos Moore, Samuel Mosby, Stokley Donelson, Samuel Donelson, and others. I would like to find more information regarding these people and especially the James Cotton. Early history for this area would also be appreciated. I am including some information regarding the Hickman family; I hope this will be helpful to someone. I have the following information from "Tennessee Ancestors Cumberland Captains and Their Kin": William Hickman, Sr. was born about 1730 in Spottsylvania Co. Virginia and died about 1811 in Davidson County Tennessee. His wife, Ann, died in 1787. He was member of the Committee of Safety of Surry County ( now Stokes). In 1777, he was a lieutenant of the 4th Regiment of the Continental Line of North Carolina. His children were: 1) Mildred Hickman, born 175 in Virginia, married William Smith; 2)Sarah Hickman, married Andrew Ewing, JR.; 3) Martha Hickman, born 16 October 1758; died 20 April 1845, married about 1770 , Daniel Hill, born October 1756 in Albemarle county, Virginia, died 28 May 1826 in Williamson County Tennessee, son of William Hill of Surry County, North Carolina. 4) Edwin Hickman, born October 1760 , died in present Hickman Couty, Tennessee in 1791, married Elizabeth Jane Pryor; 5) Nancy Hickman, married as his second wife, John Childress who was U.S. Marshall of Tennessee. They lived in Nashville; 6) Thomas Hickman, born 15 october 1762, died 6 March 1850 in Davidson county, married Miss Dudley; 7) Elizabeth Hickman, married Oliver Williams in Davidson County, Tennessee; 8) Susan Hickman, who married Dr. Roger Sappington, osn of Dr. John Sappington, first physician of Nashville; 9) William Hickman, Jr, born about 1778, died in 1839 , perhaps Shelby County, Kentucky, married Mary Webster, born about 1780 in Amherst County, Virginia, died after 1860 in Rapides Parish, Louisiana, daughter of John Webster and Margaret Walker who settled in Rockingham county, North Carolina; 10) Lucinda Hickman, married General Sam Miller; 11) Elliott Hickman, born 1782, married 11 September 1810 in Williamson County, Tennessee; 12) Julia Ann Hickman; 13) Jemima, married W.L. Marr. Edwin Hickman, a surveyor, was killed by Indians in 1791, in what is now known as Hickman County Tennessee. The inventory of his estate was returned by Thomas Hickman, 12 July 1791. He was born October 1760 in Albemarle or Culpepper County Virginia, and married 23 September 1781 in Henry county, Virginia to Elizabeth Jane Pryor. He was a son of William Hickman, Sr., he lived for awhile in Stokes County, North Carolina before moving to Cumberland. As a resident of Surry county, North Carolina, he was a captain in the Revolution, serving under Colonels John Armstrong, Robert Armstrong, and Robert Lanier. He was at the battles of Alamance, Whitsell's Mill and Guilford Courthouse. After coming to Davidson county, TN , he practiced the art of land surveying and apparently kept a stable for horses. The children of Edwin and Elizabeth Hickman were: 1) Edwin, born in 1788 in Nashville, Tennessee, died 19 January 1871; 2) Susannah, born about 1789 in Nashville, married 8 May 1807 to William Dixon; 3) Elizabeth, born about 1790 in Nashville, married Joel Rice; 3) John P., born in 1791 in Nashville, married 19 December to Narcissa Weakly. Thomas Hickman was born in Albemarle County, Virginia 15 October 1762 and died 6 March 1850 in Davidson County TN. As a resident of Surry (now Stokes) County, North Carolina, he volunteered, in 1780, as ensign in Captain William Merdith's Company, regiment of Colonel Robert Lanier. At the close of 1780, he served two months as an ensign under his brother, Captain Edwin Hickman, in Colonel John Armstrong's regiment, General Picken's brigade. He was in the battles of Alamance County, Whitsell's Mill, Guilford Courthouse, and the Battle of Eutaw Springs. (Thomas Hickman's Revolutionary war pension applicatiion, File no. S-4371.)

    1. James C. GORDON
    2. The following family was listed on the 1860 Davidson Co. Census James C.
