    1. "Indian Wars"
    2. Here is a history question. My ancestor fought in the War of 1812 and also is listed as fighting in the "Indian Wars". Does that refer to a certain time frame?. There were many battles with Indians over the years in different locations. Thanks for any enlightenment. Ida

    1. Roberta GROSMAIRE/ Capt PAYNE
    2. I am researching Roberta Elin Shelby GROSMAIRE (1906-1978). She was married to Frank Grosmaire and they lived in Nashville. Their daughter is Sara Sue Grosmaire. Sara Sue and Roberta are descendants of Capt Robert S. PAYNE and Susan GOLD. An entry was placed by these ladies in the book Confederate Patriot Index 1924-1978, Vol II published by the Tenn. Div. United Daughters of the Confederacy.. Capt PAYNE is also my ancestor by his second wife, Frances Bryant. If you have data about Roberta GROSMAIRE or Capt. PAYNE, please contact me and lets share information. Thanks. Ida Deal

    1. Finding cities, churches, cemeteries, towns, county names
    2. J.Johnson
    3. TO FIND OR IDENTIFY GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATIONS: I went to the USGS site and entered "Buffalo Valley" for the feature name and its search results came back with many Buffalo Valley sites, such as a true valley, two population sites in TN, a church, a post office, etc. There is a valley called Buffalo Valley in Tennessee in Anderson County. But if you are looking for a town, there are two Buffalo Valleys in TN; one in Lewis County and one in Putnam County. Both locations also have a "Buffalo Valley High School" which are both historic sites. This information and more is available on this site. This site helps me each time I need to know the county name for a town or city I run across in my genealogy research. Try it! 2. I bought the book, "Pioneers of Davidson County" when it was published in 1981, and it has been a valuable source for helping me locate the following lines: Birdwell, Crain, Deadrick. Lytle, Nichol, and Winters. If a reprint is available, I recommend it to anyone who can get it. Margaret Nichol

    1. FROM JAG on lookups
    2. A. jag
    3. HI folks, Thought it was time for a little note!! :) I am only reading straight from the book. If a name is spelled incorrectly, I do apologize, but I did not write the book. I will not change anything that is written in the book, that's not my place. So I will continue to send replies as I find them written. If different spellings of one name are offered in the book, I'm including those as well. This may give some of you some pretty long e-mails....but you never know, right!! Thanks for your patience JAG _______________________________________________________ Get your free, private email at http://mail.excite.com/

    1. Ferry at Hadley's Bend
    2. My great-grandfather lived in Hadley's Bend, and he reported on the 1860 Davidson County census that he was a ferryman. A ferry on Hadley's Bend could have put in across the river anywhere from Walton Ferry Road in Hendersonville in Sumner County to downstream from Old Hickory Blvd. in Davidson Co. Does anyone know where that ferry was located and were it docked across the river? Joyce

    1. New to list :)And ALWAYS need help
    2. Is anyone doing research on a Thomas and Elizabeth Homes/Holmes or a John A. and Mary M. Holmes Thomas and John were born about the late 1700s and came to Tennessee before 1831. I heard Thomas' first wife died upon arriving in America.. so it might show Thomas and Betsey. They had a son Thomas Armstrong in Robertson County TN in 1831. I'm just not sure through what area they lived before getting there. They also seemed to be around the Parkers..g f:Charles, f:Allen and son Jesse..Thomas Armstrong married Susan Jane Parker, daughter of Jesse and Sarah Elizabeth (Clinard) Parker. Hope to hear from someone.. Thanks.
