Researchers, I continue to search for data regarding the Scissom/SISSOM family. William W. SISSOM died 11 Nov 1861 at home in Coffee County, Tennessee, during the Civil War. He had been a member of Capt. T. C. Goodner's Company, as a private in Company "K", 24 Regiment Tennessee Infantry. (Confederate) August 24 to October 31, 1861, William W. SISSOM is recorded in Camp Anderson. He enlisted August 24, 1861 at Camp Trousdale for ten months, but a note on the card indicated that he died at home in Coffee County, Tennessee, November 11, 1861. Another card stated he was thirty years old when he mustered in at Camp Trousdale on August 24, 1861, thus making his date of birth about 1831. If any of you have any additional information, no matter how slight, that pertains to this man, we would certainly love to see it. We do not have any evidence as to the location of his grave. No one has definitely ruled out his presence (or lack thereof) in Coffee County in the 1860 census. The William Sissom that I believe to be this man is found in 1860 Cannon County, Tennessee page 60, family #406. A year would give plenty of time to move a few miles, thus allowing Coffee County to be identified as "home". As usual, the name is also found spelled SCISSOM. If you have information to contribute to the search, please document it. John D. Sissom johnsissom@earthlink.net
