<PRE>Thanks Freda, It sounds like a good idea. But I would have trouble telling them how to find the cemetery. I have a cousin in Shelbyville who was going to clean up the portion of Mt Hebron that my relatives are in, but my directions were not exact enough. I need someone from Coffee County to give me good directions to this cemetery (such as mileage, and landmarks ) so that I can follow your suggestion. I am not sure that it is okay to drive across the property and there was no one there to ask when we visited last summer Thelma
Thelma, I was faced with the same problem several years ago and got wonderful results. I called the Probation office for the county and told them of the needed cleanup. They have people on probation who must do community service as a requirement of their probation. They had the cleanup on a Saturday and it came out great. The officer said they would schedule it for two times a year and I was very grateful. Hope this helps and perhaps other people can call and get the older cemeteries in good shape. Regards, Freda
You can find it at www.familysearch.org -- thank the LDS for providing it. Not too difficult to use. Another researcher, Billie R. McNamara [billie@tnhillbillie.net] actually brought this to my attention. As she says, you still have to go to the microfilm to see the actual return, but that's your responsibility as a researcher anyway! <g> Jess Lewis http://www.cafes.net/jlewis/ http://www.cafes.net/jlewis/cannon.htm
<PRE>Dear List, On my last two trips to Coffee County I visited Mt. Hebron Cemetery near Beechgrove. However, I was not able to get past the gate because of the overgrowth of weeds and brambles. I wanted to show my grandson my great grandfather Jeff Gullett's grave which is right by the fence, but we could not even see the headstone from outside the fence. Is there anyone that I could contact to make arrangements to have the weeds cleared? Can anyone tell me who owns the property where the cemetery is located? There was a large white house with people living there until recently, but the house is gone and there is no one available to get permission to go onto the property. Any information about how to access this cemetery and how to get it cleaned up would be very helpful. Thelma Phillips

Just this week I discovered I have an ancestral line going back to Reuben George, b. 1776, and his wife, Nancy Hodge. Does anyone with information on this family know anything about a daughter, Susan/Susannah who married (1) Gideon Green and (2) to Samuel Gray? She may have married a third time to a Reuben Harrell in 1854. Joan Pruett Nashville, TN
I am looking for information on the sons of James and Milky "Smothers" Winfrey. There were the following males in this family: George (bn. 1832), Henry Clayborne (1836), John Winfrey (1847), Samuel "Polk" (1848), and James (1858) Winfrey. All the children were born in Tennessee possible some in Sumner County and the rest in Coffee County. I know that Samuel and James would move to Carroll and Saline counties in Missouri. The girls all moved to this same area of Missouri. The girls names were Mary, Martha, Jane and Nancy Rebecca, Their spouses last names were Earp (2), Arnold, Norvell, and Pate. James may have married a women named Annie. Samuel I believed never married. and was living at one time with his sister Mary Arnold. She was to become blind at some point in her later years. She was still alive at least in the 1920 to 30's She was the first born around 1831. Any information on this family and the sons would be appreciated. Spelling of names may vary, Thanks in advance. Dawn asked; Would the father of A.B. McMichael, William, be the brother of Caroline McMichael who married Andrew Jackson Uselton? I have Caroline's parents as John McMichael and Ruth A. Whitworth. I believe that the A.B. McMichael that you refer to is Absalom Bonham McMichael born 31 Aug 1844 in Coffee Co. TN. He was the son of Wm. McMichael and Sophronia Ross. He was named after his great grandfather Absalom Bonham (on his mother's side). This Absalom B. McMichael moved to Sebastian Co., AR with some of his mother's people and bought 40 acres of land in Sebastian Co., Ark on 25 May 1885. Sorry, I have nothing on his wife or her family. I do have more on the McMichaels and Ross families if you think this is the right A.B. McMichael. Best wishes, Jack

Jackie Johnson asks... looking for info on... >A.B. McMicheal to L. C. Anderson: lisence, November 18, 1868: Surety >February 4, 1857. by W. P. Ford, J.P. > >Does anyone know anything about any of these people? From the 1870 Coffee Census (CD #3) it looks like it could be Absalom McMichael (age 25) and Louisa C. McMichael (age 19). They are not in the Coffee 1880 census. In the 1850 Coffee Census, (CD#1) Absalom's (age 6) parents are William & Suffrony McMichael. In a Coffee County Court Case, on Nov 12, 1880 (case #13), a deed from William McMichael to his children & grandchildren is included. The deed was written on Jan 17, 1875. Basically a division of his property to his descendants. Part of it was given to A.B. McMichael. The location is along the Noah Fork Creek, a tributary of the Duck River, in (old) Civil District #3. This is where the old McMichael Farm was located. You can still see part of it, including an ancient Cemetery, from Interstate Hwy 24, as you cross over the creek (about mile marker #101). Several McMichael burials are there, but alas, no William or A.B., or Absalom. Several of the stones are missing or damaged, however, so they possibly could be buried there. The farm was right on the Coffee / Bedford Co. line and part may actually have been in Bedford Co. You might check the 1880 Bedford Census. Jess Lewis http://www.cafes.net/jlewis/
I recently found this marriage in the Coffee County Tennessee Marriage book when I was in Coffee County. I was wondering who these two people were? It said: A.B. McMicheal to L. C.
