Jackie, I don't recall ever seeing anything about a funeral home in Beech Grove. What time period are you talking about? My ggg uncle, J. R. Bailey who lived in the Noah/Beech Grove area moved into "town" (Manchester) and operated a funeral home there under his name. It was opened around 1900. His son-in-law later joined the business and it became the Bailey-Gilmore Funeral Home until John Bailey's death in 1945. It is still in operation in Manchester, now in business as the Gilmore Funeral Home. Hope this helps. Mary Ann Holder
I am looking for a funeral home in Beech Groves, that Asa Todd was working at? Any information would be appreciated. Spelling of names may vary. Thanks in advance. Jackie --- [This E-mail scanned for viruses at TNWEB LLC]
Yes my great-grandparents moved from Walker Co. GA. to Marion Co. Ark. in the 1880's. My husbands great-grandparents moved from Coffee Co. area to Ark. and then on to Texas. This was a common migratory trail. Don't know where in Ark. they stopped for a while but then went on to TX. >From Marion Co., Baxter Co., Ark. my great-grandparents come on to Indian Territory, Pontotoc County. Later of course this was Oklahoma. One set of my husbands great-grandparents came from Hardin Co. TN. to Johnson Co. TX. He also became a leader for people to come to TX from TN. Get the crops in and then go back to TN and lead a group of people to TX to settle. >From Coffee Co., TN and Hardin Co. TN was the Youngs. Also from Hardin Co. TN to TX was the Robinsons and Wingos. >From Walker Co., GA to Marion Co. Ark. was the Angellys and from Alabama to Marion Co.,Ark was the Coventons.
Reta, My great grandfather, John Marion Church, moved from Coffee Co., TN, to Arkansas, but this was between 1865 and 1875. He supposedly moved first to Newport, Jackson Co., AR, but he later moved on over to Clark Co., Montgomery Co., and then Saline Co., AR, where he died in 1926. Carole Hays Hodge, Louisiana
Is Coffee County preparing a family history book? J. Pruett
How can I purchase a book? J. Pruett
I would like to know if anyone else on the list has relatives who moved to Arkansas in the 1830-1840 time. My great great grandfather Handy DeShields came to Marion County Arkansas on their way to Oregon. In talking to Mr Jacobs of Beech Grove this summer he said that was quite common. Does anyone else have this migration pattern? Marion County Arkansas is in the Yellville, Arkansas area. In 1869 Boone County took a portion of Marion, Carroll and Baxter Counties. Handy stayed in what became Boone. Reta DeShields Parton rpsodapop@aol.com daughter of D W DeShields & Cora Irene (last name withheld) DeShields granddaughter of Dennie DeShields and Ruby Lee Austin DeShields gggranddaughter of John Wesley DeShields and Frankey Green DeShields ggggrandaughter of Handy DeShields and Nancy Womack DeShields
Alexander Simpson m. Malissa Bradshaw. They later moved to Ark. where Malissa died and Alexander remarried. I recently receiived an e-mail from a descendent of theirs.

BSWINNETT Yes, I too have found that my husband and I have a common ancestor. It sure is an eerie feeling! Especially since his ancestors were from Oklahoma and mine from Tenn. Well, maybe you have the real story .....I had no idea my Tenn. ancestors had any Native American roots until I started doing "Family History" nearly 10 years ago. It is not because my family did not have any of the Native American traits that I never thought of any connection, it is because "they" (the Tenn. line) said they were German! Oh well, and the Baxters were related to both my husband and I! Lincoln Co. / Coffee Co.Tenn. seems to this day still "pass over" the fact that there were many Cherokees and maybe Choctaws living in the area at Lincoln Co./Coffee Co.'s beginnings.....Has anyone done a study of Lincoln County/Coffee County and the early Indian settlers and the names?? Carmen McDaniel Forbes Names of ancestors from the area: Hammers/McDaniel/McDonnell/Baggerly/Belt/Smith/Davidson/ McKee/Austin/Austell/Curbo/Kerbo etc./etc. At 07:36 PM 1/11/03 -0500, you wrote: >My ancestors are from Warren,Dekalb,Smith and surrounding counties. My maiden >name is Nixon I married a Winnett and in my research I have come across a >couple of Nixons in the early 1800's who were married to Winnetts. >They were reletives , but I think this is strange or odd.I hope the >connection is far enough in the past that it doesn't matter now.I guess what >I am saying is what goes around comes around again in some way. >Has anyone else had anything like this in your research? >Sue > > >==== TNCOFFEE Mailing List ==== >Post or search Coffee Co. area Genealogical Queries at... >http://www.cafes.net/jlewis/coffqry.htm > >============================== >To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, >go to: >http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237
My ancestors are from Warren,Dekalb,Smith and surrounding counties. My maiden name is Nixon I married a Winnett and in my research I have come across a couple of Nixons in the early 1800's who were married to Winnetts. They were reletives , but I think this is strange or odd.I hope the connection is far enough in the past that it doesn't matter now.I guess what I am saying is what goes around comes around again in some way. Has anyone else had anything like this in your research? Sue
I'm looking for information on Grover Lee Green b. February 28, 1900 in either Bedford or Coffee County, Tennessee. Can you help. All I know is he married Gracie Elizabeth Wiser. For those of you who subscribe to the Nashville Tennessean and who also read the comics, please take a look at the comic strip, "U CAN" with Beakman & Jax, in the Sunday, Jan 5, 2003 issue. Probably in other papers also. The entire strip is devoted to internet SPAM, its history, fighting it, etc. One interesting technique suggested is to make a link on your web pages to... http://www.hostedscripts.com/scripts/antispam.html Since most spammers use a web crawler to slowly surf the internet and harvest each page for E-Mail addresses, this link will redirect the collection software and present it with 100 randomly generated bogus E-Mail addresses. The last line will link back to the top, reload, and another 100 bogus addresses will be available for harvesting. So, it will simple be hung up in an endless loop, gorging itself on fake addresses. If enough people put this on their webpages, it should soon eliminate this type of E-Mail collection. I put the link on my pages at two different places. One near the top as.... <A HREF=http://www.hostedscripts.com/scripts/antispam.html></A> which will not actually show on your page but the collection software will see it, take the bait, and leave your page. On a couple of pages, I also put it near the bottom as.... <A HREF=http://www.hostedscripts.com/scripts/antispam.html> Fight Spam! Click Here! </A><BR> This does the same thing, but presents the message "Fight Spam ! Click Here", hoping other people who are fed up with Spam will go to the page, read it and modify their pages accordingly. I'm sure that spammers will find a way around it eventually, but at least you feel like you are getting back at the *7#$$@** for now. The article also has another link to ideas for generating anticrawler code at.. http://innerpeace.org/escrambler.shtml Jess Lewis http://www.cafes.net/jlewis/
I am looking for info on the Cobb line, any spelling of the name, that was in Franklin Co. that was shown on the 1850 census as KAB, Jesse. His actual name was Cobb and he was in the area that later became Moore Co (near Lynchburg) by 1832. He had sons George W., James P., Jackson Kenzie (a stepson), Isaac, Jesse G., Marion Rice. All were born in Franklin Co except for possibly the stepson, Jackson K. Jesse is believed to be the son of a Joseph Cobb, possibly born (Jesse) in GA. If anyone is researching the Cobbs of Franklin Co and thereabouts, please contact me. Families that Jesse's children married into include MULLINS, ARNOLD, DARWIN, LAWS, REVIS/REAVIS, among others. Virginia Greene
Dear Listmembers: I thank you for the information regarding the location of Naola. Apparently I was born about a mile from said location. I have walked all over the area and there is nothing there to indicate a community ever existed. At least, now I know where it was. Thanks again, John Sissom
