Hello - Just wondering if anyone else has researched a family member who served in the Civil War? I'm at a dead end with my family - and this may be the only avenue to obtain further information. Thomas L. Smith joined the 63rd TN Infantry Company B on 5/12/1862 in Knoxville, TN by Captain Lyon. I'm hoping that any paperwork that he may have had to fill out will include his parents names. Did they have to fill out paperwork?? It's quite possible that he may not have been able to read or write. Thanks for any help you can give me, Julie Walters [email protected]
