Howdy to everybody researching in Tennessee - I am currently looking for any information on my mother's paternal Grandparents: Richard Washington POOLE & Birdy(ie) Mae DYCE POOLE. Richard was the only known child and son of John POOLE and a (according to family lore), full-blooded Cherokee Indian who was only known as Tennessee POOLE. Birdy(ie) was the daughter of Margrett JACKSON DYCE, who may have been of Dutch-German descent. Richard & Birdy(ie) POOLE had 3 children: Ethel Mae POOLE ABERNATHY born bef.1911 in TN (poss. Cheatem Co.) who married Clifford ABERNATHY, who served as the Chief of Police in Nashville, Davidson Co.,TN during the 1930's - 1940's. Ethel and Clifford had possibly 4 four children; Jackie and Joyce were the first two. I have located (I believe) Ethel & Clifford in a current phone directory CD; listed as living in Nashville but not having spoke to them yet am unaware of what the circumstances regarding their descendants are at this point. (Would anybody have any advice on the best approach to use when speaking by phone to someone you have never met, who possibly has never even heard of you and who you are going to have to convince that there is a familial relationship, and also; somehow persuade to them to divulge genealogical information that only they hold the key to?) PLEASE!! This would be an enormous aid to me and my research. I have already tackled this problem from the snail-mail approach and some of the replies I received were kind of luke-warm at best. I'm hoping the more personal approach of live phone conversation will make the ones that I still need to contact more receptive towards me and my quest for my ancestors than my letter approach did. If anybody can offer any advice (preferrably based on personal experience) I would be most grateful and willing to offer my own assistance to them in the manner of CA look-ups, WFT #'s 1 - 2, the current(thru June 1997) SSDI CD by Palladium Interactive a 1830/1850 Gazetteer, & Family Tree Maker's Master Index CD and SSDI through 1993.)
